40 Designer Approved Roman Shades to Fit Any Budget
One design topic I’m frequently asked about is window treatments. They can be a costly investment that can make or break the overall look & feel of a room. Therefore, I think it’s equally as important to consider both form AND function. As an interior designer, I can honestly say- you don’t have to spend a fortune to have well dressed or well functioning windows. Today, I wanted to share 40 designer approved roman shades to fit any budget or aesthetic. I’m also sharing my tips for layering shades with drapery panels… which can help achieve a custom, designer look for less. Click through for my finds!

I love to pair woven wood shades with drapery panels because the warmth, texture, and contrast offers a nice layered juxtaposition. If you’re on a budget, don’t sleep on readymade curtain panels. FAQ
I definitely prefer an inside mount. I think it looks clean and custom!
Not at all- most shades are incredibly easily to install and just require a few screws. They all come with instructions, and the hardware is always concealed.
The ones in my formal living room are more decorative than anything, so they don’t offer much privacy. We don’t ever use them, as that side of our house is secluded… I mostly installed them for texture and warmth.

I hope your week is off to a great start! I’ve still got my niece in town for one more week, so we’ve been having fun and I’ve put her to work reupholstering my second antique chair, ha. Let me know if you have any shade questions!

Good morning! Now that’s an extensive roundup! A veritable one-stop roman shade shop. I find drapes a little formal for my aesthetic (and maybe a tad intimidating 🤣), but I adore a roman shade! The options are plentiful for adding a shapely valance, intricate trim, or sleep-saving blackout liner. They can be relaxed and blousy or starched and prim. Bamboo is unbeatable for warmth and texture. Plus, I’m a superfan of the convenient cordless function. I would happily find a spot in my home for any of the 40 you featured, but you know I am partial to those with an extra touch of pizzazz. I actually did order a pair of custom size bamboo shades from a shop in your Amazon storefront. We are thrilled with the look, quality, and value. Once again, your trusted recommendations came through! I hope that the fun continues at Camp Gibson, week 2! Cheers to a great day, Sarah!💜
Good morning, Peggi! Roman shades are definitely more casual and perhaps more fun than certain drapery panels? I love the contrast trim versions or the color blocked options. Woven wood is always my go-to though! So glad to hear you’re still loving the bamboo shades. I’m taking my niece to the tile store with me today to source pavers and I put her to working packing orders at the shop over the weekend. She’s been a fun helper! I’ve promised a movie date and jewelry making in exchange for some elbow grease, ha. Hope you have a good week ahead!
Hi, I am in the market for some Roman shades and loved that you showed many different looks for them. Loved them all! I am particularly looking for motorized ones and wondered if you had any thoughts on those? Also of the ones you reviewed, were any of them capable of motorization?
Thank you!
Hi Margaret! I do love and appreciate a motorized shade. A few of these are motorized, but if you’re looking for those specifically… a couple brands I like: Blindsgalore and The Shade Store. Hope that’s helpful!
I love all of your picks! I’m unfortunately in a home where the depth of my windows doesn’t allow inside mount Roman shades. I know that’s preferable… but are you able to share guidance on the best rules of thumb when it comes to measuring/placing outside mount Romans?
Thanks, Corie! Each manufacturer has their own measuring guidelines for outside mount Roman shades- because of where the hardware placement is. Most have specific measuring instructions for both inside mount and outside mount, and I’d refer to those! One thing to keep in mind for outside mount, you want them to fully cover the window (not too tight or close to the edge) or light will bleed in from the edges. Hope that helps!
Good morning Sarah! I’m catching up now that I’m back to the land of Wi-Fi, ha! Every option you’ve selected is gorgeous, and how a person could decide is beyond me. I do have a few favorites that stand out: 39- the neutral color on this one is exactly what I’d love to see in my bedroom. 34- I’ve never seen a woven shade with a contrast border- this one looks clean and elevated but also relaxed. 31, because how could those NOT be on the list after admiring them in your formal living room for so long? The color is perfection. 23 is one I keep coming back to. I love the weave and light filtering of this one- a great option for my front room that gets a ton of natural light. 18 also has the rich color I love, and I also like the more dense weave. 16 would be perfect in Brookie’s room- I love the scallop detail and the color. The clean valance detail of 12 has me. 7 stops me in my tracks. I could see these in my kitchen/dining room. Loving the neutral tone and the elevated feel. Too many options this morning. Of course I love the embroidered edge and Greek key details of the other fabric options; I’ve often thought about these compared to a woven option for our primary bedroom/bathroom. This is such an amazing list to come back to- I’m in no way ready to start replacing window treatments, but knowing this is here will help in my future decisions. Thank you for putting all your favorites in one place. I hope you’re enjoying the last week with your niece! Camping was gorgeous and a lovely break from the heat. I’m proud to report that our yellow boy did magnificently, and even with all of us in one tent, zero complaints!! Happy Thursday!!
Welcome back to wifi, Lauren! Hope you guys had an amazing camping trip and came home with lots of fun memories. Good boy, Rocky! So happy to hear he was well behaved in the tent. This will definitely be here whenever you need a Roman shade. You know I’m always happy to share guides! Hope you have a good day catching up at home.
