Tips for Shopping for Timeless Home Decor at World Market

I know big box stores can be tricky to navigate and are known for displaying on trend items (that are prone to go out of style), so here are my best tips for snagging the timeless goods that you’ll love for years to come:

  1. Stick to the Essentials – items like I’ve shown throughout this post… kitchen goods, bath linens, functional everyday items.
  2. Choose Items Made of Natural Materials – look for solid wood, stoneware, 100% cotton, 100% linen, marble, etc.
  3. Double Check the Quality & Craftsmanship – everything has to pass my quality & craftsmanship inspection. Is it well made? Are there rough edges? Does it have a nice weight? Does it look cheap?
  4. Avoid Trendy Items – there are lots of trendy home items that will be out of style later this year… avoid those.
  5. Purchase with Longevity in Mind – choose items you know you’ll still like in 3-4 years. Keep the words “timeless” and “classic” in mind when making purchases.

My marble bistro table that lives on our bedroom balcony. It’s such a well-made, heavy, beautiful table… for $200, it’s a steal! I didn’t see it in my local store though- or I would have included it.

What is your favorite food purchase to buy there?

Baking items! They have the best Guittard chocolate chips- I always stock up.

  1. Good morning! I love World Market! Unfortunately, my closest location moved an extra 15 minutes away, so I rarely make the hour drive just for browsing. ☹️ When I do make the trek, I generally focus on three sections-kitchen, bath, and food. Goodness knows, I have no need of more dishes or linens, but as you showed, simple, pretty examples in solid wood, marble and cotton abound. I usually check for serveware, trays, and napkins/tea towels in particular. My favorite section though is the food! I can always find a unique spice, interesting condiment, or intriguing candy. Not to mention teas, beer, and wine. Their selection makes assembling a fun gift basket a breeze too. Now that I’m thinking about it, maybe I need to schedule a little shopping sojourn. Ha! At the moment, I can’t tear myself away from the yard. We’ve had nothing but sunshine and glorious temps; we’re going to hit 70 today!☀️ I know rain and mud is inevitable, so I’m replenishing my vitamin D while I can. Meanwhile, this virtual trip will hold me over. Thanks! I’m eager to hear all about your tile adventure to Spain also. For now, I hope you’re enjoying some family time and getting this week off to a stellar start! Happy Monday, Sarah!💜

Hi Peggi! I’m glad I’m not the only one going there for teas and snacks, haha! Such a great idea for gift baskets. I’m eager to get outside and get to work as well. Your comments are motivating me to get my hands dirty and soak up some sun if the weather allows. I need to work on a blog post recapping Spain because it was really fun and a learned a lot. I came home to our family visiting and immediately took the kiddos skiing, so I feel like I’m still catching up over here. Family time is the best though. Thankful for those who are willing to come visit us across the country :) Hope you have a fun weekend ahead! xo

  2. Good morning Sarah! World Market is a favorite place to browse in person; the selection of everyday items can’t be beat, and I have yet to be disappointed with a purchase. You found some gems! I adore the white pepper mill- that’s one I’ve never seen in my local store. I own quite a few marble items from there, and love the quality and veining. Baskets are always worthy of a browse; I’m liking the shapes and variety this season- especially the large one on the opener of the post. I also enjoy their kitchen section. They are my go-to for serving utensils. I love that you can buy individual cocktail forks and knives, as well as classic linen napkins and tablecloths, at an affordable price point. Their bath section is also a favorite, although they discontinued my favorite brand of bubble bath. Their selection of soaps, bath salts, and lotions is unrivaled! I also highly recommend their teas if you’re a tea drinker. World Market is one of the local places that I can always count on finding what I need, plus a few things I don’t, and it looks like I’m due for a browse. Walmart is my vote for your next trip- selfishly, ha! We sadly don’t have any of the other stores you mentioned; at least not close enough to browse in person. I hope you had a fantastic weekend- I am fully rested and finally over the hump of sickness, ready to get back to my normal routine. Finally! Hahaha. Happy Monday friends!

Hi Lauren! I’ll be honest- I’m usually swinging in there before a flight to load up on snacks, haha. The pepper mills were definitely a favorite- they looked identical to the Williams Sonoma ones. They really do have the best kitchen section, and I can’t believe how affordable it is! I’ll have to do a deep dive in their bath section next time I’m there. I’ll definitely give Walmart a go! They have a ton online that I’ve found, but it will be interesting to see what I can dig up in person :) Challenge accepted!

  3. Can you link to that large cement-ey clamshell-ey bowl at the end??? I’ve been looking for one that isn’t a million dollars!

And thank you – I too have a few key home purchases from World Market that I cherish. :)
