It’s here!! The moment you’ve been waiting for (if you’ve been following along)… the bathroom is 100% done- barely in time for the One Room Challenge reveal. I shot the space hours ago and somehow managed to pull together a post after a fiasco with the artwork. All is well and I couldn’t be more pleased with how this tiny space turned out. Click through for the complete reveal and all the details!
In case you missed the past six weeks, no worries… catch up on the process here: Week 1 (before images and the design plan) // Week 2 (demo and prep) // Week 3 (tile) // Week 4 (bathtub resurfacing and electrical) // Week 5 (paint and hardware) // Week 6 (accessories)
To start, I’ll give you a little refresh of what the space looked like before we renovated.
Quite the difference, right? It’s amazing what the correct size vanity and new tile / fixtures will do to a space. It looks SO much larger thanks to some design tricks I implemented. The black ceiling and ceiling-mounted shower curtain worked just as I had hoped to elongate the room.
It’s difficult to nail down my favorite thing in the space… from the tile, artwork, plumbing fixtures, and even the accessories, this is one of those rooms where everything just seemed to work well together.
I truly love showering here now. I know that sounds weird, but I’ll stand in my shower and smile because of all that goodness that is happening around me. The beautiful marble, the industrial shower trim, and even my little fern that sits in front of our new black window (he likes humidity, so this is his permanent home) makes me so happy.
I’m also really glad we landed on contrast tile for the back of the shower niche. The smaller herringbone pattern is a nice detail that gives our shower storage some dimension. Clearly I have a Davines product addiction. Shoutout to my hair stylist (hey, Amber!!) who has me hooked. In all seriousness, they look great against that tile.
Even though the space is small, I wanted it to have plenty of personality. Between the storage vanity, amazing floor tile, and new artwork- I’m hoping that shows, and I achieved my goal of giving this bath some pizazz.
The nude ladies are insanely gorgeous in person and totally worth the hassle and shipping mix up I had to endure. I teamed up with my bf, Laurie Anne (the artist behind these beauties), and gave her free reign to create whatever she wanted. Obviously I wasn’t disappointed! Framebridge also did a fantastic job framing them.
Spoiler alert… you can win some of these nudes for yourself on Monday! I’m following through with the fun bath giveaway I promised, and Laurie Anne agreed to throw some of the limited edition nudes into the mix.
Obviously storage was a big concern with this project… this tiny bathroom really needed to be super functional because it’s the one and only bathroom in our home. We store lots items in baskets below the vanity, as well as inside the vanity.
The lower two “drawers” aren’t actually drawers at all… they hinge downward revealing a giant storage space inside the vanity. I keep my cosmetics, extra toilet paper, and other toiletries in this compartment.
We also have a medicine cabinet. Yep! That’s not just a mirror… it’s a pretty sizable medicine cabinet where we keep our toothbrushes, deodorant, medicine (obviously), and other necessities we use on the daily. Here’s a tiny peek inside… it’s mirrored, which also eludes to more space.
In addition to closed storage, we also needed a couple places to hang towels. We installed two minimal towel bars on the opposite side of the room, which have proven to be really functional. We no longer have to hang them on our closet door knobs (super exciting stuff).
There’s also a robe hook on the backside of the door. It’s little details like these that make small space living a lot easier.
Of course I wouldn’t wrap up the big reveal without sharing sources! Click the collage below or the linked numbers to shop the resources. As always, let me know if there’s anything I missed.

Be sure to come back on Monday for a fun bath giveaway! There’ll be multiple prizes… turkish towels, soaps, candles, bath accessories (one of the little wooden brushes shown below), artwork, etc. It’s my way of saying thank you for your support during my first ever ORC.
If you have any questions at all, let me know. I’d love to hear your feedback in the comments below! For my first One Room Challenge, I’d say it went pretty well. Honestly the most stressful day was today. Ha! I’m hoping next time around I’l have learned my lesson. Thanks for sticking with this series and for your words of encouragement. They mean so much! I should also send a giant thank you to Linda at Calling it Home for organizing this entire shindig. It’s been fun and inspiring.

March 26, 2018 at 11:32 pmThis is gorgeous!! I am moving into an older house that is fAbulous- but every bath is stuck in the early 1990s… I am searching Pinterest and found this! I am doing black accent walls and need to prove to the hubby- I know what I’m doing 😂 (literally the only human who still questions me about design🤷♀️) the ceiling! The floor!♥️♥️♥️♥️ Ugh my heart! I am finding you immediately and following your blog- gorgeously done
Sarah
March 26, 2018 at 11:35 pmThanks so much, Carrie! My husband still questions my designs too, but then in the end, when things finally come together, he has the “aha” moment. Haha! Good luck with your renovation and thanks for following along :) xo

March 19, 2019 at 6:31 pmHi Sarah,
Sorry don’t know how to start a new post, but I would love to mimic this look in my small bathroom! How tall is your ceiling? Ours is 96″ and my concern is that it will make the room look even smaller. However, your beautiful renovation gives me hope that a black room can work in a small space! The walls and all other furniture like vanity will be white.
Sarah
March 20, 2019 at 9:53 amOur ceilings in that home were standard height… the black will actually elongate the ceiling height by tricking the eye, so it can definitely work in a smaller space with lower ceilings :) hope this helps!

November 15, 2017 at 7:08 pmNow this is fantastic! I painted a black ceiling in our bathroom last spring and am still in love with it. Everything about this space looks so well though out and executed. Beautifully done!

tim@designmaze
November 15, 2017 at 10:54 pmlooks fabulous Sarah! when most people would go with light and bright color to make the bathroom feels bigger, you’ve opted to use dark marble floors with geometric patterns and a dark ceiling to give the space its character and your personal touch. Clever and brilliant move! your matte black hardware and accessories are to die for … now I may just have to go shopping!
Sarah
November 16, 2017 at 8:09 amThanks so much Tim! Absolutely love the way your space turned out too. Great job!

November 16, 2017 at 8:33 amLove this!!! Do you mind telling me where you got your towel bars? I tried to click on the picture link but I got a page error. Thanks! Love your blog!
Sarah
November 16, 2017 at 8:37 amSorry about that, Kim! I think I fixed the link. I appreciate you letting me know. The towel bars can be found here: http://bit.ly/2zxWtmn
Kim
November 16, 2017 at 10:22 amThanks! I actually think its my computer. Link works on my phone. Last quick question… What size are yours?
Kim @ Yellow Brick Home
November 16, 2017 at 9:08 amThis is insanely beautiful! I can’t get over the brass fixtures and all the little details in the room, but that floor steals the show (yet in the most understated way).
Sarah
November 16, 2017 at 9:57 amThank you so much, Kim!!
Kelly
November 16, 2017 at 9:20 amThis is truly stunning. I love the little fern so much. Two follow up questions:
1. I can see why you wanted to boost the shower curtain up to the ceiling to elongate the room, but why did you run what looks like a board across the ceiling and mount the curtain behind it? Somehow that black strip distracts me.
2. When you open the secret storage space on the vanity, does it come out into the room too far and make it difficult to reach into the storage space to grab things? This totally tricked me and I thought it was two drawers but I was wondering if it pops out too far to efficiently reach under there.
Sarah
November 16, 2017 at 10:00 amThank you, Kelly! I’m happy to answer questions :)
1.) We installed the valence in front of the shower curtain so that edge looked nice and clean. I love that i blends with the ceiling and covers the imperfect top of the track-mounted shower curtain. In person, it’s really not incredibly noticeable. I’ll try to do a tour on Instagram today!
2.) The vanity door isn’t that big. It was just difficult to shoot a good angle of it. It actually makes storage more accessible than a drawer. We can fit a variety of different sized toiletries in there… including stacked rolls of TP.
Hope this helps!! xo

January 17, 2020 at 4:33 pmHi! I love this bathroom (found on Pinterest). Wondering if you remember where you found your ceiling mount curtain rod? And do you use a liner? I tried a ceiling mount roll down and it hasn’t worked out… would love to hide the rod with the trim – genius!
Sarah
January 22, 2020 at 1:09 pmThanks Maureen! That came from IKEA… you can read all about it in this post: https://roomfortuesday.com/the-bathroom-one-room-challenge-week-5/
Rachel
November 16, 2017 at 9:59 amIt’s absolutely gorgeous! Following along, I wasn’t sure how the marble would tie in with the black hex tile on the floor. It turned out amazing! I’m taking inspiration for our one tiny bathroom renovation starting next year!
Sarah
November 16, 2017 at 7:32 pmThanks Rachel! I love seeing everything come together- especially when it works really well.

November 16, 2017 at 12:18 pmSWOONING over here! <3 Like you I can't decide what I love the most. Love the black ceiling, love the ceiling mounted shower curtain (so stealing this idea!), love the vertical subway tile and that little fern! : ) Really spectacular design and execution. GREAT JOB!!!

November 16, 2017 at 12:47 pmThis is so gorgeous! Bravo! Job well done!
I am at the very start of a small bathroom renovation, so the timing was perfect. I absolutely love the idea of having the curtain go to the ceiling. I saw that the track is from ikea, but can you give me more info on that? I looked at the website and didn’t see a double track. Only single and triple. How many different parts do you have to buy? Was it very complicated to install? Thanks in advance. Your bathroom came out so amazing!
Sarah
November 16, 2017 at 1:29 pmThank you, Megan!! It’s the triple track. It works best so you can use a liner on the inside as well. I ended up buying two tracks. There’s a seam in the middle and they connect. It’s really super easy to install and comes with detailed instructions. You can even buy a tiny tool at Ikea that will help you cut / modify the track to fit. Hope this helps!
Megan Harvey
November 18, 2017 at 5:49 amThanks for the info!

November 16, 2017 at 6:33 pmGreat job!
I too have a small bathroom. I currently have a pedestal sink. I would like to get a vanity but was concerned about hitting the side of the vanity :) if you have a chance, could you tell me how much space you have between your vanity and toilet?
Thanks!
Sarah
November 16, 2017 at 7:37 pmTrust me, that happened with the old vanity. If you checked out the before post, it was definitely a butt / hip hits the vanity sort of situation. Ha! The current space between the toilet and vanity is now around 9″. I definitely don’t hit it anymore. Hope this helps!
Kate
November 16, 2017 at 7:12 pmJust beautiful!!! I especially love the touches of pink/blush in the towels and the artwork. This is an example of what a designer knows how to do to finish off a room. Congratulations!
Sarah
November 16, 2017 at 7:38 pmThank you so much, Kate! It’s so refreshing when people notice the little details like that :) … I’m a details person. I think they really make or break a space. I’m glad you like it! xox

November 17, 2017 at 10:05 amSuch a beautiful bathroom! We are currently planning our tiny bathroom reno, and this is a huge inspiration! What did you do during renovation since it is your only bathroom? We are in the same situation and I would love some insight to that problem!
Sarah
November 17, 2017 at 10:11 amThank you, Karissa! I told lots of funny stories in the ORC process posts… let’s just say, we’re lucky we have good friends who let us shower at their house. We might’ve peed in the yard. Haha!! I’m serious. Starbucks is close by, so we also bought a lot of coffee for restroom breaks there too. Good luck! xo

November 18, 2017 at 11:22 amOh, this is just so darn good! Love, love, love those floor tile. Going to use this bathroom for inspiration. Just wished I had your eye and sense of style. I was wondering how tall your ceilings are? Thanks so much for sharing.
Sarah
November 18, 2017 at 11:25 amThank you, Angela!! Believe it or not- the ceilings art standard height… about 91″.
Stephanie
November 19, 2017 at 10:55 amAmazing design!! Where did you get the sink faucets ? I’m looking for that color and shape but in a one piece. I’ve found a few similar but they are so expensive!
Sarah
November 19, 2017 at 11:13 amThank you, Stephanie! As a designer, I have a to-the-trade account with Ferguson, so mine came from there. I linked the same option that is available to the public on Amazon.
Jen
November 21, 2017 at 1:58 amI love that tile but it is driving me nuts that the tile is all facing the wrong way!! Brick or subway normally goes horizontal. When you walk up a brick walk-way it is horizontal. Sorry LoL my OCD had to say something ;). Very pretty though!
Sarah
November 21, 2017 at 7:45 amThanks, Jen! The tile installation was an intentional decision. It elongates the space and ceiling height, while looking more modern. I’m 100% happy with the decision and outcome.
Karen
November 21, 2017 at 1:18 pmThis is absolutely beautiful! Great job on your first one room challenge! I like the horizontal subway tiles. Where are the fringed bath towels from? Did I miss that source somewhere? :)
Sarah
November 21, 2017 at 1:56 pmThanks so much!! I actually found those on eBay… they’re kasstex brand, but they don’t make them anymore. Sorry!
Karen
November 21, 2017 at 1:18 pmSorry – I meant to say vertical subway tiles!

November 23, 2017 at 5:01 amI am so in love with this bathroom!! Every detail is gorgeous, I can’t pick a favorite! That tile treatment is amazing and I love the fixtures! And the vanity! What a beautiful job!!

December 13, 2017 at 11:34 amI love this bathroom remodel! I’m using so many of the features in my remodel I am doing right now! thank you for the inspo :) I was just wondering if you could tell me where you got that black valence for you shower curtain? I cannot find it anywhere! also, did you get your shower liner cut in half too or just the curtain?
Sarah
December 13, 2017 at 3:13 pmWe actually made the black valence.. if you click back through the ORC posts, you can see the process! xo
Allison
January 11, 2018 at 2:40 pmThis bathroom is just stunning! We are usin it as inspiration for our current bathroom remodel. Can I ask you where you purchased the trim for your marble in the shower around your window and enclave area? Thank you so much
Sarah
January 11, 2018 at 3:29 pmThank you so much! The pencil trim actually came from Home Depot. They had a carrara that matched our subway tile- score!
LeeAnn
January 22, 2018 at 7:18 pmDid you paint the hardware on the vanity? The stock photo shows chrome hardware.
Sarah
January 22, 2018 at 8:39 pmI actually replaced the hardware. I found the same thing in matte black from Wayfair.

January 30, 2018 at 6:49 amThis is beautiful. You are so talented. Do you know what the dimensions of the room are? I’m wondering if this is the solution to my tiny bathroom as well. (I would have to reroute the plumbing…not fun….but I think it’s the only solution) Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks!
Sarah
January 30, 2018 at 10:36 amThank you so much, Natalie! The dimensions are roughly 5’x 8′

February 7, 2018 at 11:10 pmThis is a stunning bath!!! I am working on one at the moment and was planning to do a black and white hex. This floor might change my mind! The spec say wall use only. How’s it holding up on the floor? I’m going to have a free standing tub, do you think it could withstand the weight? Finally, does a black floor drive you crazy? I had dark wood floors in my last house and they always looked dusty. Again, this is BEAUTIFUL! Well done.
Sarah
February 8, 2018 at 8:47 amThanks, Karin! It’s perfect on the floor. I actually think it hides dust / dirt better because of the depth, dimension, and grout lines. We’re still loving it just as much as the day we installed in! xo
Sharana Jones
February 11, 2018 at 12:23 pmWow! Simply Stunning! Question about the vanity-did you change out the hardware to black or was it purchased as you have it? LOVE the black ceiling.
Sarah
February 12, 2018 at 7:46 amThank you, Sharana! I swapped out the hardware.
Amanda
February 27, 2018 at 1:49 pmSo beautiful! What did you do to cover up the shower rod?
Sarah
February 27, 2018 at 2:06 pmThanks, Amanda! We actually don’t have a shower rod. We opted for a ceiling-mount track instead… then added a valance in front of the track to disguise the curtain hardware. Does that answer the question? xox
paige
March 17, 2018 at 10:35 amHi! I love the bathroom and got the track system and valence like you, the track did not come with the sliding pieces to add the hooks to, to hang the curtain. i’m wondering where to found these ?!
Sarah
March 18, 2018 at 4:01 pmHi Paige! Everything you see in my bathroom for the shower curtain came from IKEA: the track, the sliders, the curtain, curtain hooks, etc. It doesn’t come as a kit- you have to buy each piece separately… but it’s all from IKEA.
Lauren
April 9, 2018 at 6:08 pmHi Sarah! This bathroom is such an inspiration. I am actually wondering where you bought that adorbale little wicker basket holding your makeup brushes in the vanity. I am looking for something new for myself for that exact reason, and it seems not only useful, but its also adorable!

May 21, 2018 at 6:59 pmHi Sarah! I have a question on the long shower curtains- love them! Is the curtain and liner both on the same IKEA track system? Are the curtain and the liner the same length? Thanks so much!! Love your work!
Sarah
May 21, 2018 at 10:15 pmThanks so much, Alli! The liner and the IKEA curtains are indeed on the same track. It’s made for a front curtain and a back… so they’re on different slides. The liner is shorter than the exterior IKEA curtains. I ended up hemming them both to my desired length. I found the extra long liner on Amazon. xox

July 31, 2018 at 7:04 pmHi Sarah,
I love this bathroom so much that I decided to replicate the shower!! May I ask what color and type of grout you used and recommend? I am having a hard time finding a color match similar to yours and have gotten different feedback regarding sanded vs unsanded vs epoxy grout. Do you have any recommendations pertaining to marble for both shower walls and bathroom floors? Thank you for the amazing inspiration! I love following your reno updates. Everything has been so helpful since I embarked on home reno projects a month ago.

September 9, 2018 at 12:54 pmGreat Bathroom! We are currently renovating a small full guest bath that is similar in size and layout. I would love your advice on choosing differing grout colors. We have cattara gold 2×4 marble subway tile in shower and lantern mosaic on floor. Can you do light grout in shower and darker on floor to pick up latern shape of tile ? Btw love your kithchen tile!

March 19, 2019 at 7:00 pmYour bathroom gives me hope that black in a small space will work! How tall are your ceilings?
Ours is 8″ and I’m hoping a black ceiling would still work! The walls will be a whiteish paint color and the vanity and corresponding cabinet above the toilet will also be white.
And how long are your shower curtains?

September 3, 2021 at 1:45 pmThis is SO gorgeous!! My partner and I just bought our first home and wanted to re-do the bathroom on the main level…I had some ideas but after seeing this, we are going to full on copycat your design. It’s amazing! I’ve already told so many people about your blog; I feel very lucky to have stumbled across it :)
Do you happen to have a tutorial for the mounted shower curtain? I perused but couldn’t find anything. Thank you!
Sarah
September 7, 2021 at 10:47 amThank you, Grace! I love hearing that :) I appreciate you spreading the word about my blog, as well. I’m so thankful for all the small business love over here. I don’t have a tutorial for the curtain ceiling track, but I believe it’s saved in my IG highlights from wayyyyy back in the day. We used the same method in our basement: https://roomfortuesday.com/basement-media-room-updates-movie-night/ … you can find the fabric portion of the shower curtain DIY here: https://roomfortuesday.com/extra-long-shower-curtain-diy/ I hope that’s helpful! xo

March 10, 2023 at 9:12 pmHello & absolutely beautiful job. You and Emmett should be so proud! How is the space holding up years later? Is the shower trim from Brizo as well? The Amazon links are unavailable. Thank you v much!

March 13, 2023 at 8:02 pmThank you so much, Mercedes! We actually no longer live in this home anymore. We moved about four years ago. The shower trim was also from Brizo! I hope that helps.
