Idyllic Moments : July 2020
Last month I started a new, reoccurring series that felt a bit more personal, but was focused on interiors and all things home inspiration. I thought it would be fun to share small vignettes around our house each month that make me smile. Idyllic means happy, peaceful, or picturesque, and there are many moments in our home that bring me those feelings. So far, I’ve really enjoyed photographing and sharing these posts. It gives me an opportunity to appreciate the little details. These posts are a glimpse into real life and our home as we actually live in it. Click through for the July edition of Idyllic Moments and to see some summertime vignettes that made my stop to acknowledge and enjoy the little details…
We finished renovating our formal living room back in January, and it’s difficult to believe it was a basic, builder-grade shoebox style room. This space really makes me happy and I find myself sitting in here all the time. I recently added two new furniture pieces to the room, that was the result of a Facebook Marketplace score…
I stumbled across two nero marble side tables and quickly jumped at the $40 find. While I loved the look of our previous end tables flanking the sofa, they weren’t very heavy. Given our dogs zoom around the house like maniacs, I had been on the hunt for two heavier side tables that wouldn’t tip when the dogs decided to get “the zoomies”. These were perfect for the room!
Speaking of table styling… have I ever mentioned how difficult oval coffee tables are to style?! This is one thing that took me a LOT of practice to figure out. Recognize that calligraphy brush from my recent Tuesday Morning haul? I’ve found that oblong accessories are the easiest when working with oval tables, if you ever find yourself in a similar styling situation.
It has really felt bright in our house, given we’re in the summer season and it stays light very late here. I’ve honestly enjoyed watching the light change these past couple months. Capturing light leaks and shadows has excited me and sparked a newfound love for creative photography.
Check out my FBMP side tables from a lower vantage point… isn’t that greek key detail stunning? Somehow they feel elegant, hip, classic, and edgy all at the same time. These were definitely a super score! This is the same nero marble we have in our guest bathroom upstairs. I love repeating materials throughout our home for a cohesive thread that ties the entire place together.
During my grocery run this week, I ended up with a lot of fresh flowers. If you know me well, you know the florals seen throughout this post all came from Trader Joe’s. I actually have a post on how to create a Trader Joe’s floral arrangement, if you’re interested! Fresh flowers have been filling our home with summer scents and texture this month.
Sunflowers are the epitome of summertime. You can’t look at them and not smile. I put these together in the kitchen and they never left the space. The beautiful sunshine yellow color works perfectly against our moody cabinetry. Yellow and blue is always a winning combination.
Speaking of the kitchen, we’ve been spending a lot of time in here lately. We’re still cooking and baking up a storm… actually Emmett has been doing the majority of the cooking these past few weeks, as I’ve been working long, late hours. I have so much I want to share with you- very soon! Basically, I’ve been spending a lot of time cleaning and painting our rental office.
Summertime seems to be flying, but also standing still. I’ve been itching to travel so badly, but we’ve been cancelling all of our upcoming planned trips. I’m really appreciative of our house, our beautiful home state of Utah, and am trying to remind myself to enjoy these moments making memories at home. I definitely love where we live! How is everyone holding up this month? What areas or vignettes in your home have been making you smile lately? I’d love to hear!
