Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comMy last Shopping Trip post was at the beginning of March before Utah closed down because of Covid. Aside from grocery shopping and camping in the middle of nowhere, I pretty much haven’t left our house… and I most definitely haven’t been shopping for fun. Utah allowed retailers and restaurants to open last month, and I hadn’t ventured out until yesterday. I was on my way to grab groceries and noticed a huge sign at my local Tuesday Morning store. Sadly, it’s going out of business (thanks to the pandemic) and they were having an “everything must go” sale. So sad! The parking lot was empty, I had my mask and sanitizer in the car for grocery shopping, so I pulled in to take a quick peek. I know many states are far worse and aren’t in the phase of reopening yet, so if you’re itching to shop (but can’t), maybe you’ll enjoy this post. After things open back up, this might also be a good guide on what to look for at your local Tuesday Morning… I’m sharing my styling & shopping tips for each item, too! Click through!

*This probably goes without saying, but… as always- please be cautious and follow the rules & regulations your state has in place. I’ve avoided shopping posts altogether because I didn’t want to promote shopping in-person during the pandemic. If your state is open and you’re shopping, please be sure to wear a mask for the safety of others!

Funny thing before I dive in- I get a LOT of emails and inquiries from people thinking my brand and blog is called Tuesday Morning, or I’m somehow associated with them. Haha! I suppose it’s because they’re well known, and I’m not… plus we’re both in the interior space- it seems like a reasonable correlation to assume we’re connected. Obviously I have nothing to do with them, nor is this post sponsored, but I do enjoy shopping there. I probably should have planned this post for a Tuesday, so it could be all things “Tuesday”, right?! I know, I know… my blog has a funny day-of-the-week name. I still really love it after all these years, though!

#1 // Rust Colored Ginger Jar

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comThis ginger jar was $20, after discounts, and I just couldn’t say no. I love the pattern, the color, and knew it would be a versatile styling piece that fits the aesthetic of our home interior. Doesn’t it look beautiful styled in our formal living room (in the intro photo)? If you dig, you’re often able to find classic ceramic pieces at Tuesday Morning. This was in the kitchen section.

#2 // Non Slip Clothing Hangers

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comI’m one of those people who likes having an organized closet with matching hangers. This is typically what I shop for at Tuesday Morning or discount stores similar to it… basic, everyday items that feel cohesive.

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comI have these exact hangers and they’re my favorite! My clothing stays put, they look intentional, and it keeps my closet looking nice.

#3 // Basic, Unscented Pillar Candles

I always buy unscented, plain white or ivory pillar candles. They’re timeless, beautiful, and can be styled in so many ways! I’ve found Tuesday Morning to be a great, inexpensive resource for these.

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comI often style them in a glass hurricane lantern (like this ribbed one). Above, it’s styled on the patio bar cart, but most of the time it lives on the living room coffee table (see it in this Noteworthy post). If you prefer your regular scented candles or no scent at all, this is a gorgeous option without the fragrance. I love lighting these for parties or hosting, too. Have you been seeing more pillar candles in glass lanterns lately? I have! I think it’s becoming a new interior trend.

#4 // Large Calligraphy Brushes

I spent a LOT of money on vintage and decorative calligraphy brushes these past few years. I started collecting them and have them styled throughout the house. I just think they have so much character, and I love the texture and interest they bring to a space. They make great conversation pieces, and I can’t believe I was able to find four(!) at Tuesday Morning. I grabbed two of them for $25… a total steal!

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comI have a pair on a stand in our kitchen, and I also have a couple styled into our living room built-in. One is hanging on the shelf, and the other is resting on the soapstone countertop.

#5 // Embroidered Detail Bed Sheets

I’m a sucker for classic bedding, and embroidered bed sheets are one of my favorite ways to dress a bed in an elegant way. Believe me when I say, you can find amazing bedding at Tuesday Morning (even better than HomeGoods, in my opinion).

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comYou can catch a glimpse of how I styled embroidered sheets in our guest bedroom. Don’t they feel inviting and crisp, without being too stuffy? I’m a fan of those little details!

#6 // Monogrammed Towels

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comMuch like bedding- good textiles of all kinds are easy to come by at this store. I’m a fan of monogrammed home goods. It feels personal, classic, and given my background is in print design- I’m always a fan of inserting beautiful typography.

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comAfter sharing our budget friendly laundry room makeover last year, I received SO many questions about the monogrammed towel. The secret is out… it was $5 from Tuesday Morning.

#7 // Ceramic Cookware

I’m always able to find kitchen and cooking items here… whether it’s a dish, a serving platter, an oven mitt, or a utensils- I always come home with something for the kitchen. This pretty ceramic baking dish was only $12 and it had such a unique shape.

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comIf you’ve read my dishes, glassware, and kitchenware post, you already know I’m a fan of buying classic, white items that will withstand the test of time.

#8 // Bathrobes

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comTuesday Morning tip… Peacock Alley is a high-end designer brand they carry and if it’s in stock- it’s always really amazing quality at an insane price. Did you notice the price tag above?! As a designer who used to work for a firm that carried this brand, this robe retails for $150! The Tuesday Morning price is $25 (not including the store closing deal). It’s nuts! I snagged this white Turkish bath robe that is super duper soft and luxurious.

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comI like to hang my bathrobe on a towel hook or the backside of the bathroom door (this is our previous bathroom), but they’re also nice for house guests. You can catch my tips and printable checklist for stocking a guest bathroom for visitors. I have a few white, hotel-worthy robes that I keep available for friends & family when they come visit.

#9 // Down Bed Pillows

Fun fact… all of our bed pillow inserts come from Tuesday Morning (literally every single one). They have a wonderful selection of down, down alternative, and memory foam bed pillows. Emmett and I always buy down, but that’s just our personal preference. You can find high-end brands at great prices.

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comI also like down pillows because they retain their shape, last an incredibly long time, and are easy to fluff!

#10 // Wood Candle Holders

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comFunny story about these candle holders… I noticed them in the store, loved them, obviously photographed them, talked myself out of them (do I really need MORE candles?!), got home… then immediately called the store and asked if they could hold them for me. Haha!! I had MAJOR regret that I didn’t buy them, so I went back. I just kept thinking of them in our basement against the navy. They were too good… and only $8 each! I’m so glad I realized my stupidity before someone else snagged them. Another shopping tip- if you feel it in your gut, you know something was meant to live in your home.

Shopping Trip : Tuesday Morning - roomfortuesday.comSo that’s it… my first shopping trip, post quarantine. Sadly, it was to a store that was closing because of the pandemic. What a crazy, unbelievable year! Have you ever shopped at Tuesday Morning? I’d love to hear about the treasures you’ve scored. Happy Thursday, friends!

Oh shopping…sigh. I kind of remember that. 😢 So, I had to google Tuesday Morning, and it turns out there are 2 in the Boise area! I had no idea. Next to thrifting or antique stores, these type of discount stores might be my favorite. I love that you don’t know what you might find, and quality basics always make me happy. I love the rust ginger jar; I’ve long coveted a red dragon one. And I certainly can’t resist quality cooking or bakeware- especially in an interesting shape or color. Great tip about Peacock Alley; now I’ll keep my eyes peeled for it. I look forward to regular (relaxed!) shopping someday!
For now, I need to get refocused on my project list; I’ve kind of lost my mojo. Where are you concentrating your efforts on this lovely Thursday?💜

Right?! It was so weird to go into an actual store. I smiled when I walked in at the clerk behind the counter, and of course she had no idea because I had my mask on. Ha! Strange times. I also like that you never know what you’ll find at these type of stores… it’s always a fun adventure. A dragon ginger jar?! I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for you. That sounds amazing! Peacock Alley is definitely one to look for, when it comes to high-end brands. Good luck with your projects. I feel like I’m finally getting my mojo back. It has been a weird few months filled with ups and downs. Be gentle on yourself, my friend… and get to that project list whenever it feels right- you’re on summer vacation! Today I’m working on work (tomorrow’s blog post, meetings, upcoming sponsored projects). I also am working on something BIG, that I can’t share quite yet.. but it has been taking up alllll of my time. I’ll share soon! Other than work- trying to keep our dogs comfortable and not itching during allergy season. Ugh. We also cancelled two trips this week. We were supposed to fly home to Kentucky to visit family next week for July 4th, and our Alaska trip we previously rescheduled is officially off the books now. I feel like I need a change of scenery and some inspiration. I’ve never wanted to travel and hug people more than I do now!! Hope you have a good Thursday. xo

Sorry about your trips! Our rescheduled Joshua Tree is the end of July…but I don’t know. Cases in our rural area are spiking now, too. 😢

Ugh, so sorry about your canceled trips, Sarah & Peggi. Total bummer. We were supposed to go over to Amsterdam and a few other stops around the Baltic Sea to celebrate my 50th in July, but no go on our end, too. Thankfully CO cases are declining-truly hoping it stays that way, though. Too. Many. People. Out. I do hope you make it to JT at some point, Peggi. Bill and I were lucky enough to go with friends in February and it’s a truly special place. SO incredibly inspiring. Have you been, Sarah?

Thanks Anne! Also sorry to hear about Amsterdam and the Baltic Sea (which sounds SO incredible!!). Such a bummer our fun travel is getting cancelled. Hopefully we can use our credits and points to go again once it’s safe. Glad to hear CO counts are holding steady or decreasing. Utah is spiking and there are so many people not abiding by the rules / mask wearing. It’s disheartening to see. Yes- I love Joshua Tree. Hoping Peggi still gets to go on her trip :) Have an amazing weekend!! Happy Pizza Friday :)

Here we go again…totally jealous of the selection you have!! We had a Tuesday Morning for awhile; I gave it a try a few times and sadly, didn’t find anything to bring home. Out here TJMaxx and Home Goods typically have the better selection, but even there I haven’t found anything as cool as that ginger jar! Sheets are always the most difficult to find out here at bargain stores like this. If you find good ones, they’re never in the size you need. I’ve been on the hunt for new sheets for almost a year now! The kitchen wares are the big score out here. I always find amazing deals, especially glassware. Last year I scored two sets of 8 high quality stemless wine glasses (red and white) for $4/set! I couldn’t believe it and get frequent use out of them. Candles are my jam at these stores. Those candle sticks look drool worthy in your basement!! I love that I can find scented candles that look and smell amazing for under $10. Pillows is one I’ve never thought to search for at stores like this, but thanks for the idea!! Question though: do you buy standard size pillows, or king? We upgraded to king size pillows when we finally got a king bed and I’m finding it difficult to hide them behind the decorative pillows. You always have the best shopping luck Sarah! I’m itching to do some shopping that doesn’t involve scrolling. Something about being able to feel an item in my hands is far more appealing. I look forward to the day TJMaxx reopens. I’m sad for you that such a great store is having to close its doors. We’re experiencing a lot of that here. Cheers to Thursday friend, it’s another June gloom day for us and the air feels invigorating and crisp this morning!

Haha! Sometimes you really have to dig… Tuesday Morning more so than HomeGoods. I love finding glassware at thrift stores. You can find some really high quality vintage glassware! Oddly enough, I never have luck with candles at those types of stores. So funny that we find the opposite things, Lauren! If only we could swap some things. Ha! To answer your pillow question- I buy the size of pillow to fit the bed. King size pillows for our king bed, queen for the queen bed in the guest room, etc. I don’t hide them! I just style them layered with the decorative pillows. It was really nice to shop in person instead of scrolling, but I’m afraid it’s short lived. Utah’s Covid cases are starting to spike. Too bad! I’m also sad that so many stores are having to close their doors because of the pandemic. Such a bummer to see that! Enjoy your June gloom!! That’s the perfect weather. xo

Totally! Y’all can send me alllll the Peacock Alley.😆 Love that shopping without scrolling, Lauren. So true. Sometimes you just gotta see it in person for the color, actual size and the quality, all of which can get totally lost online.

So happy you were able to get out and do a little shopping. It really recharges you. Now I fully understand why they call it “retail therapy”! LOL! Our TJ Maxx and HomeGoods are open. We have a couple of Tuesday Mornings that are going out of business as well.
Tuesday Morning and I go way back! I have bought so many things there. In fact, we still have the duvet I purchased when we first got married (25 years ago)..wow! It’s in the closet as an extra when we have guest. I too have purchased pots and pans, dishes, bath towels, furniture, bar stools, gift wrap, holiday decorations, etc. Interesting about Peacock Alley. Did not know that about the brand.
Unfortunately, our Tuesday Morning got so full of stuff on every isle and walk way that it turned me off. The beautiful accessories and items that you hunted for became a lot of inexpensive junk. My mom is a big fan of Tuesday Morning as well. She will be sad.
You scored some really good finds. Ditto to the “if you feel it in your gut” kind of thing about something. Been there and regretted it.

I don’t have a Tuesday Morning near me, but I love this post! I like that you shared a picture of the item in the store and then how it looks in your home – I might not give some of these things a second glance, but they look so great how you’ve styled them!

Oh Sarah this makes me laugh! My brother and I’s MOST DREADED shopping expedition with our mom when we were growing up was Tuesday Morning.

Their store in Tulsa was this HUGE old square cinder block like warehouse that sat up on a hill a block back from one of the main streets. It was big. And our mom was not the type to dash in and look at a certain section. No, we had to go down E V E R Y. A I S L E slowly and carefully. It was torture!!!

I can still hear their jingle ringing in my mind: “It’s not just a day of the week, it’s Tuesday Morning!”

Thanks for that trip down memory lane. I don’t even know if they still have that big Tulsa store, the last few years if I have gone with my mom when I am home it is a much smaller place thank goodness,

I randomly stopped by the Tuesday Morning near me today while I was waiting for a table at lunch. They actually had the candlesticks and the ginger jar you bought!! They’re SOO gorgeous in person!! I found another ginger jar that had a beautiful navy blue pattern on it; I’m kind of having remorse over not buying it. It had a beautiful case that matched it, and I keep thinking of how gorgeous it would be in my kitchen. I also found a beautiful black, gray and beige jar that would have been cute in the bathroom…turns out the black will look great with my vanity color…😝 It was pretty cool to be able to see those items in person, and to find some cool stuff myself. I’ll probably go back for that blue ginger jar!!

Lol, you’re right, you’re right! Hahaha! I didn’t go back, but I may make a stop today. I can’t get that jar and vase out of my head. Especially since it wasn’t a “match-y match-y” sort of match. The vase took one of the decorative embellishments from the jar, and that was the main design embellishment. It was absolutely stunning together and individually…ugh…got to get there today!!!
