Custom Closet for Him (+ A Video!)
I hope you’re not too terribly tired of closets just yet! This one marks our third custom closet (see the office and guest room in previous posts) and they keep getting better and better. The next two closets are located in our master bedroom, so we decided to install his and hers master systems. The bedroom itself is pretty small, so we had to maximize our storage with the units. This might as well be Emmett’s post because he totally steals the show with his closet and his handiwork in the video (PS. bloopers coming soon).Â
If you follow along on Instagram, you already know we painted the two sets of french doors a beautiful powdery blue last week- just in time for the shoot, I might add. It’s sort of difficult to grasp the lovely color because we’ve yet to paint the walls in this room… it’s on the to-do list! I’m still drooling over the doorknob sets from Nostalgic Hardware (more on that in this post).
Alright, let’s dive into the actual closet. This is Emmett’s closet. I designed it, but he was very specific with his needs and wishlist. He asked for a fair amount of shoe space, a smaller amount of hanging space, and lots of shelving and drawers. It seems the older we get, the more we enjoy minimal wardrobes… we’ve been purging and minimizing our closets. This project came at the perfect time and was just the kick in the pants we needed to commit and clean house.
Here’s a glimpse into the installation process and our favorite things about his closet. Emmett was a little hesitant about being behind the camera, but I think he did an amazing job. Like I said, not-so-serious bloopers are coming in a separate post.
My favorite thing about the video project this time around is showing what it’s actually like to install one of these babies! But back to the finished closet…
As I stated in the video, I love the way these closet systems function, but I love the way they look even more… super seamless and built-in!
Knowing Emmett, I’m guessing this closet won’t look this organized forever, but I do think it will motivate him to keep items in their designated places (rather than finding things scattered throughout the house). Honestly, he’s pretty good at being neat and tidy, but articles of clothing and shoes do tend to end up in unexpected places. Typical husband complaint, right?
You guys know I’m a big fan of using bins and baskets to organize. The guy has a TON of hats, so we sorted and kept his favorites, popping them into the open container for easy access.
That concludes HIS closet. Be on the lookout for my closet next month… it’s behind the french doors to the right of this one. It’s much different than his, and I also have a plan up my sleeve for shoe storage.
