Stocking a Guest Bathroom for Visitors

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comI’ve been talking about this for a month now, but I’m excited for my family to arrive and tomorrow is the big day! I figured this would be the perfect time to share how I stocked the guest bathroom for visitors. I’ll admit- I kind of went all out. I was just super excited to have a separate bathroom for our house guests to use. This is the first time we’ve ever been able to give our friends & family that luxury, and with our newly renovated guest bath– I just felt like embracing the spa / hotel concept. This entire list obviously isn’t necessary, but hopefully it will be helpful and you can pick & choose what best fits your situation when prepping for visitors! There is also a good (printable) resource list if you have a new bathroom you’ll need to stock. Click through to see how I did it… plus, it’s kind of fun to look through other peoples cabinets isn’t it? Haha!

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comLet’s start with the obvious… plush, white bath towels fit for a spa! I’ve been using these towels for over a year now and they’re my absolute favorite. Over the past year, I’ve purchased two of these towel bundles and couldn’t be happier with how they’re holding up. All of our house guests comment on how soft they are. I love grabbing one after every shower… it’s the little things in life, like super soft towels, that make me happy.

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comSince multiple family members will be sharing this bathroom during their stay, I put robes in each of the guest room closets for them rather than on the towel hooks in the bathroom. If it would’ve been one person or a couple, I would’ve happily left the robes on the hooks, but I felt like the closets were a better option this time around… and a nice surprise! Who knows if they’ll even use them, but I enjoyed trying to think of every single thing.

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comIf you’re wondering what is in the drawers… I filled each drawer with toiletries in case visitors forget anything. Mine and Emmett’s entire family is spread throughout Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, and Indiana (we’re the oddballs out West)… when they fly in, we tell them to leave the big stuff at home. It just makes traveling so much easier and less stressful. We have everything they need, and if they forget something- they don’t have to worry. I picked up some disposable razors, shaving gel, and mini deodorant during my last trip to Target.

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comI also splurged on my very favorite bath products… bubble bath, bath salts, but most importantly- lotion. It is DRY in Utah and our family is used to humidity, so the climate out here can be hard on them. They’re constantly lathering up when they come visit. This lotion is one of my favorite scents!

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comWhile we’re on the bath topic, you already know I filled my matching shower containers with nice smelling shampoo, conditioner, and body wash! As for soap…

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comI prefer to get my bath soaps from World Market. They have the best selections and they look & smell so amazing! I swear, every time I go into that store, I come out with at least five soaps. Haha! It’s just really good. Please tell me there are other World Market soap fans out there?

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comIn the name of all things pretty, I turned into a crazy person and decanted mouthwash. I’m waiting on little paper cups to arrive, but it feels fancy and fun! I’m not sure how functional or annoying it will be, but I suppose time will tell. Ha!

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comThese disposable toothbrushes had amazing reviews on Amazon and let’s get real- I also liked the way they looked and the price tag. I threw all of the dental items in a corner of a drawer and called it done.

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comOn a more practical note- obviously a bathroom needs toilet paper. One of my pet peeves about our previous bathroom was lack of storage for toilet paper. It takes up so much room and I could never buy the larger bundles for extra savings. Luckily, we have plenty of storage for TP and whatever else in the guest bath. I also threw together some feminine products, should anyone need those type of items… and makeup remover / face wipes are always a good idea!

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comI also did another crazy thing, that turned out to be pretty smart. I bought a giant bundle of spa slippers on Amazon, that fill the bottom drawer. They’re packed in pairs and although our house is under construction pretty much all the time, I try to keep the clean spaces clean… that means we’re a no-shoe household most of the time. If friends come over, I usually offer them a pair of my house slippers, and I know these will be so much easier when trying to coax the shoes off of people.

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comIn my true OCD, type-A, Sarah fashion… I did another nutty thing. Emmett literally thinks I’ve lost my mind and laughed at me, but I already told you- I FULLY committed to the hotel bath concept. I couldn’t stop myself…

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comYep- I bought a hair dryer and a bag to put it in. I kind of love it! I also tossed a brush, comb, hairspray, hair ties, white turbie towels (my favorite), and dry shampoo into the “hair care” drawer.

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comNext to each sink, I positioned a soap dispenser. I had lots of questions about these after the reveal. I swapped the silver tops for matte black pumps I found on Amazon. If you have a dispenser and prefer a different colored pump- they come in all different finishes and it’s an easy trade.

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comOn the burl vanity table, I added a box of tissues (with this basic cover), cotton rounds, and Q-tips. I still really love the marble vanity mirror I shared with you in the reveal- it’s so classic looking.

As promised you can find a giant bathroom printable checklist below!

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comHopefully this list will come in handy if you’re stocking a newly renovated bathroom, are moving into a new home, or are preparing for house guests. It’s basically a giant resource list of everything you could ever think of for a bathroom. I’m sure I missed some things and everyone has different preferences, so I left space in the “other” section for you to fill in additional items!

Stocking a Guest Bath for Visitors - roomfortuesday.comEven though my family will be in town visiting, I still have blog posts scheduled everyday, so be sure to check back! I’ll also be sure to share on stories if I take my grandma antique shopping (that was her request, haha). Questions or comments about the guest bath or how I stocked it for visitors? I’d love to hear them in the comment section…

  1. Oh my gosh! You definitely have the luckiest guests ever! You have thought of everything. I bet that shopping was a blast. Honestly, I don’t think the hair dryer was overboard; packing one for travel is a pain! I envy the poshness of decanted mouthwash. Pretty sure I’d be swanning around that bathroom in my spare time.🤣😍 Enjoy your much-deserved family time. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for g-ma stories!

    1. It was really fun, Peggi! I’ll definitely share some g-ma stories once we’re out and about shopping :)

  2. Fellow World Market bar soap lover here! I too love buying bar soap there – so many to choose from, gorgeous packaging, and bar soap is a fun way to try a new scent without committing long-term (like a bottle of perfume).

This bathroom is guest-ready perfection. I’m a robe person, so including those (and slippers!) is gold. Your guests are lucky.

Question: can you source the mouth wash glass decanter? I poked around at past posts, but couldn’t locate it. I love the ribbing and its slim profile. :)

    1. Yessss!! Happy to hear that Karen! I have the same outlook… it’s fun to mix up the scent without committing to expensive perfume. Unfortunately, the decanter is vintage, so I don’t have a link for that- BUT… CB2 has some fun ribbed options: http://bit.ly/2TYno4V

  3. Wow Sarah you are the hostess with the mostess! Amazing, your family is so lucky, I’m sure they will be over the moon for the fabulous glam hotel spa bathroom 😍 I have so much respect, admiration, and praise for the work you and Emmett put into that bathroom. Not to mention the very unique!

    1. Aw, thanks so much Colleen! That’s the best compliment. I really appreciate it. xox

  4. Emily Villejoin says:

Your love for soaps at world market is the same for my love for soaps at Anthropologie. I feel like everytime I go into that store I come out with at least a new bar of soap, and I live alone so these bars last forever!! I just cant help it lol

    1. Why have I never thought to buy soap at Anthro?! Now I’m going to be on the lookout for it. Actually, that’s a lie… I think I bought the volcano soap there once, which was amazing. Maybe I’m just a soap hoarder? Haha! I feel ya. xox

  5. What about including an electric shaver for the men?

    1. That’s a great idea Gigi. I totally forgot that… I’ll just make them live with a beard while they visit. Hahah!

  6. Fantastic! Love the Hairdryer bag and slippers, what luxury! Something I find my guests ask me for a lot is nail clippers, those might be a nice addition.

    1. That is SO smart, Becca! I can’t believe I didn’t think of those- thanks so much for commenting :) xox

  7. I only wish I had a master bath to stock this way!
Our single bathroom is full of little boy toothbrushes and towels. Some.Day! Until then, this is amazing dream food.
    So beautiful, Sarah!

    1. Thank you so much Chloe! Someday :) We don’t have kids, but our siblings say the same thing in regards to our nieces and nephews. Once they’re grown, everyone says you’ll miss seeing those little items, but I suppose a bath filled with adult things will also be nice. Haha! xox

  8. The hair dryer is not that strange. I don’t own one myself but after my mom asked to borrow mine for the 10th time I finally bought one for the guest bathroom.

    1. It really is a nice thing to have! I hate packing mine when I travel.

  9. Wow-anyone that gets to use that bathroom will be thrilled!

Just make sure you and Emmett get some rest before your guests get there so that you are not exhausted. I’ve been there …when I’ve worked myself to death trying to make sure everything is perfect before they get there. But then I’m tired when they arrive. DON’T DO THAT! Rest up before they get there so you can savor their company. Enjoy…you guys deserve a break!

    1. Thanks Kathy! 100%… we went to dinner last night and took some time for ourselves :) We’ll do plenty of relaxing during their visit too. Thanks for reminders! xox

Sarah, I love the way your home is well appointed and welcoming! And…LOVE the little wicker basket holding your toothpaste and toothbrushes pictured. May have missed it but would you please tell us where you found that?

    1. Thank you, Pam! That came from a vintage store years ago, but I did found something similar for you! Check out this one: https://bit.ly/3hM4sPI

  11. Sarah, I enjoyed reading how you created a welcoming and special ambience for your bathrooms.
I own a vacation rental and I love creating a spa-like bathroom experience for my guest. I too love adding the various bath products, “delicious” bathwashes and soaps. One of my “finds” and a money saver is purchasing high quality name brand bath products at my local Dollar Store. I stock up when available. Too, I purchased wonderfully fragrant all natural pure bar soap from the Amish…their soap is totally delightful. I put a bar of their soap in a mini organza bag and use as a giveaway for my guests. I love your enthusiasm for creating special “touches” in the bathroom.

    1. Sarah Gibson says:

I’m so glad to hear that, Maria! Such great tips- especially for vacation rentals. Thank you for sharing! Have a great week
