A Bright White Family-Friendly Kitchen

A Bright White KitchenBefore leaving Ohio, one of my friends offered to let me shoot a couple rooms in her amazing home! First up in the tour? A bright white, family-friendly kitchen. In addition to their two dogs, she and her husband have four(!) growing boys, so you can imagine the meals and entertaining that happens within this space. Aside from looking really fantastic, it seems they’ve thought of pretty much every added convenience and function that would be helpful in raising a large, growing family. Click through to tour the kitchen!

Black and White KitchenI love the crisp, clean details that make this space feel fresh and modern, yet welcoming. They went with classic materials such as marble, subway tile, and brushed nickel fixtures to create an inviting kitchen that will never go out of style.

White Modern KitchenOne of my favorite aspects of the kitchen is the professional grade appliances. Not only do they have an industrial grade range and fridge, but also double dish washers- which my friend insists is a must for a family filled with boys! She said while one is running, there is always a place to put dirty dishes… and let me tell you- her boys know exactly how the system works. You may not even notice many of the appliances because they’ve been thoughtfully faced with cabinet fronts.

Bright and Open KitchenCan we take a minute to talk about the herringbone floors? They’re actually tile that looks like wood, but it’s very well done. With pets and kids, she preferred a material that was super durable, scratch resistant, and easy to clean. I think running the tile in an interesting way helps to add movement and pattern to an otherwise monochromatic and rectangular space.

A Bright White Family Friendly KitchenThe vintage industrial leather stools were a lucky find from a flea market extravaganza. The cognac color really works well with the warm wood tones. Speaking of vintage, I had to ask her about the sign hanging in the kitchen that reads, “John’s Store”. You guys are going to love this story!!

Vintage Sign in KitchenHer husband’s grandfather owned a grocery store and this is the actual sign that used to hang above their shop. It’s been in their family and she knew when renovating the kitchen, it had to live in the space somewhere. She also displays a framed canvas of the store on the countertop. I love the personal touch it adds to her kitchen, sharing a piece of the family history- it’s the meaningful details that make all the difference!

Chalkboard Wall in KitchenI had to laugh the first time I met my friend at her home… the chalk board wall adorned a “grounded until…” reminder for one of her kids. Ha! In all seriousness, it’s the perfect fun and organizational feature for this space. Isn’t that every kid’s dream? A chalkboard wall to play on?

Barstools in a Bright White KitchenBeing a super fun mom, she said her family really spends a ton of time in the kitchen. One of their favorite things to do during the hot, Ohio summer is to make milkshakes and have movie night.

Modern Cottage KitchenAnother handy and beautiful vignette is the coffee bar. It has it’s own sink, with an osmosis filter that I’m sure fills many water bottles for athletic practices and games.

Coffee Area and Wet BarI’ve always been a fan of floating shelves, but the large canisters on the shelves in this kitchen are really charming! Maybe it’s the handwritten labels, or the soft under mounted lighting, but they just make me want to whip something up in this gorgeous kitchen. If you’re having kitchen-envy as much as I am, here’s how to get the look at home…

Beautiful kitchen! Love how they incorporated family history into a modern space. My favorite part has to be the wood-look tile floors. That’s my goal for my place! There’s nothing about this kitchen that I don’t like. Very well thought out and family friendly.

    1. Totally agree! I just love the significance of the sign, and the floors are probably the most practical option I’ve seen for the wood look. Hope your week is off to a great start, Becky! xo

Fabulous bright, light kitchen. Love the floors, the countertops and the backsplash tile. Thanks for the inspiration as we start planning a new kitchen.

    1. Good luck with your kitchen reno, Elizabeth!! xo

  4. Did they hit the flea market jackpot or what? Those stools are amazing & I love the art in the space. My counters would look so bare without some frames leaning on them. Great tour Sarah.

    1. I know, right?! That’s one thing I never added to my countertop that I will definitely do in my new house- artwork! Seems like a no brainer. xo

    1. I agree! She’s one talented lady. I wish I could’ve stayed in Dayton a little longer so she could’ve photographed my husband and I.

  6. Those dogs! What a pair! All of the heart emojis.

    1. They are SO cute and sweet. I knew we’d be friends because she’s such a dog lover too. Ha!

    1. Thank you, Ardith!! xo

  8. This kitchen is a dream! And the personal touches are just lovely. Can’t wait for the rest of house, hopefully?

  9. Ann Heltzel says:

Ditto, please show the rest of the house! The kitchen is drop dead gorgeous? Are the floors tiled throughout the first floor?

    1. The last space is live on the blog now- the living room! No, the tile is only throughout the kitchen. The rest of the main level is hand scraped wood flooring.

  10. This kitchen is to die for! Do you know if the quote on the chalkboard was a stencil? If so, where did they have it made? I would love to do something like that in breakfast nook.

    1. Agreed! The chalkboard wall was not created with a stencil. Love the quote though!! xo

  11. Love it! So beautiful and inviting! I’m planning to borrow some of these different features for our tiny kitchen, and I’m wondering what color of white paint do you have on the walls?

    1. Thank you, Rebecca! It might’ve been Sherwin Williams Pure White or Benjamin Moore Super White. Now that we’re onto another house and selecting new paint colors, it’s all sort of jumbled. Ha! xo

  12. I love the flooring, so you remember what size the tile? I am seriously thinking we need to do this in our home.

    1. I’m just guessing… around 24″ x 5″ pieces. xo

  13. Omg I love the all white kitchen with the stainless steel appliances . It’s modern and classical. The leather tan stools adds a pop of color adding a little masculine touch.

    1. I totally agree! The perfect balance. xo

  14. Love the materials in your kitchen (and that wine fridge!). I was curious what style of wood porcelain tile that was. That is the exact coloring and size I am looking for and I seem to not be able to find one that matches that. Currently your link just goes to “view all” tile on wayfair. Do you happen to have a direct link or name of the tile so I could source it? Thanks!

Hi! How was the writing on the chalkboard done? Freehand, stencil, etc.? Thanks!
