St. Patrick’s Day Dessert

Layered Trifle Cake

We don’t have St. Patrick’s Day plans this year, but if we did- I would bring this dessert! I had to make it for a photo shoot at work this week and thought I would share the recipe. I was first introduced to this whipped cream chocolate trifle cake at Kalyn’s family Easter a few years ago. It was so delicious, I had to get the recipe. There are variations of this sweet trifle all over the internet, but I’m sticking with this version. It’s super easy, the presentation is gorgeous, plus it feeds a lot of people!

Pudding + Toffee

What You Need:

8 oz. package cream cheese (room temperature)

1 cup powdered sugar

2 cups heavy whipping cream

2 T granulated sugar

9 inch round devils food cake (I used this recipe, but a box mix works too)

1 cup toffee, crushed (I used Pure Madness, of course)

Large trifle dish

Make It:

Bake your favorite chocolate cake according to the recipe; you only need one, nine-inch round cake. Just a heads up: most recipes make two, so you can either do something else with the extra cake or make half the recipe. Let the cake cool and prepare the pudding as instructed on the box.

Whip your cream in a chilled metal bowl, whisking granulated sugar and heavy cream until soft peaks form (makes about 4 cups whipped cream).

In a separate bowl, combine cream cheese, powdered sugar, and 1 cup of whipped cream.

Layer the dessert in your trifle dish:

Top with crushed toffee and let the trifle chill for at least an hour before serving.

So easy! Kalyn tried this and said it was amazing and that I had done an excellent job. Little does he know how simple it all went together. If you’re going to a party, no excuses not to take it along; let me know what you think!
