I can’t wait to explore the rest of your blog now, as it looks like you’re doing a lot of the same reno’s as us, with the same style. We were planning on the same ikea vanity/sink, but double basin. But I’m worried about the deck space. Do you feel these ikea sinks provide enough deck space around the basin? (for placing all your junk while you get ready!) I’m scared! Reply Sarah October 22, 2014 at 12:36 pm Hi Meegan! Sorry for the late response, but to answer your question- I love the vanity. It’s actually really spacious and I have a ton of room for storage. In fact, we had house guests over a few weeks ago and my friend commented on how it was nice for storing cosmetics, cleaning supplies, etc. The drawers are both deep and pretty tall. I think you should go for it! I don’t have any regrets. Thanks for reading! Reply Eva October 20, 2014 at 3:45 am Another ceiling fan admirer here. Can you share the source for it please? I definitely think the new update fits with your home and sense of style better:) Reply Sarah February 22, 2015 at 5:21 pm Thanks so much Shavonda!:) Reply Muckity Mucked February 25, 2015 at 8:34 pm Love how you changed the entire feel of the room with realitively minor updates. I’m a fan of the new look over the previous; while the blue was also nice, this seems more sophisticated and mature. I happened to recognize the art over your loo by Fanny Nushka Moreaux – are you lucky enough to have the original? It had already sold when I looked. If not, how do you like the quality of the print? Reply Sarah February 25, 2015 at 10:28 pm Thank you! I’m happier with the updated look as well. Unfortunately the artwork is not an original, but the print is really great! It’s a hand finished impasto, so it’s very textural. If you would like a print, let me know- the interior design firm I work with carries them. Thanks for stopping by. xo Reply Sarah March 1, 2015 at 9:57 am Love this! Love the bed, rug and colours. Cant wait to see the results! Reply Sarah March 1, 2015 at 12:38 pm Thank you, Sarah! I’m about to dive into my first ever bathroom reno and gathering all the sources has been so time consuming. My husband and I had a totally fruitless trip to Lowe’s the other day– we didn’t like ANYTHING they had, so I’m going to just browse and buy it all online. Love what you did here! http://www.bethanytab.com/blog/2013/09/as-we-found-it.html Reply bethany tab March 18, 2015 at 7:19 pm I love how your original tile and fixture choices allow you to change directions in this bathroom with just a few subtle accessory changes. Makes me feel better about going all white and chrome for the base materials! Reply Sarah March 19, 2015 at 6:21 pm Thank you, Bethany! It’s always a good idea to choose neutral or classic permanent materials, then update with colorful or trendy accessories. Good luck with your bathroom renovation! I want to do an all-white kitchen too, but I’m having such trouble finding nice-looking white appliances! Reply Sarah May 19, 2015 at 9:00 pm Thank you, Christina! Appliance shopping is super difficult. I wasn’t happy with one brand consistently from a visual aesthetic and my husband was super picky about quality. So, I ended up selecting my favorite styles from three different brands. Appliance brands don’t have to match, just be careful matching the finishes. Most finishes across different name brands are the same, they just label them different colors. My microwave and stove/oven are Whirlpool, the fridge is Samsung, and the dishwasher is GE. I wanted a glossy white finished. Most brands call this ice white. I’m super happy with everything and I wouldn’t have done it differently. Good luck! Search for circular marble base and you’ll get some options. They’re usually parts from trophies or lamps. I used 5 1/2″ from edge to edge. Good luck! Thanks for reading. Reply Amber July 6, 2015 at 5:20 pm Hi there….I’ve gone full stalker on your Insta page(s) and can’t seem to find the process photos of the reno. I’m quite taken with this entire room, but mostly curious about the maker of the tile and its name, and the refinishing of the tub. Thanks for any additional info :) ~Amber in WA Reply Sarah July 6, 2015 at 9:39 pm Hi Amber, thank you! The manufacturer of the tile is StonePeak. We used a local refinisher for the bath tub, but I would highly recommend refinishing old plumbing items- it was totally worth it and turned out fantastic! They also make kits for DIY refinishing, but we trusted the professionals. Hope this helps! Reply Kimberley July 7, 2015 at 2:02 am Hi Sarah, are StonePeak the ones for the floor tile as well? Reply Sarah July 7, 2015 at 1:23 pm Hi Kimberly, StonePeak is the floor tile only. The oversized white subway tile on the walls can be found almost anywhere. Thanks for visiting! Reply Sarah October 7, 2015 at 4:42 pm Thanks so much Sarah!! xo Reply Julie October 10, 2015 at 8:26 pm HI Sarah, I hope you don’t mind me asking another question. I bought the flooring! I’m very excited to see it when it’s all done. The only thing is I live in San Francisco and my bathroom renovation is in Maine so I won’t be able to pick the right white subway tile to go with the floor. After doing some research it seems subway tile comes in a variety of options, shades and quality. I’m not putting the subway tile on the walls instead it’s going onto the shower walls only. I was wondering which tile this is and if you liked the quality in the end. Thanks so much, Julie Reply Sarah October 11, 2015 at 4:42 pm Hi Julie, No problem! We used a Soho 4×16 wall tile; since this project was for a client, I can’t testify or describe it’s current state. I would recommend discussing subway tile options at your local tile showroom. They can provide specs for you; it is accurate to say not all ceramic subway tiles are created equal. Good luck with your renovation! -Sarah Reply Julie October 26, 2015 at 7:22 pm Thanks Sarah! I will do some research. Reply David Solis November 18, 2015 at 5:21 am Wow, I love your design, very inspirational. Thank you for sharing. Reply Sarah November 18, 2015 at 3:13 pm Thank you, David! Quick question- I have been considering a magnetic knife holder for a while, has it scratched your knives? A few of my knives are some of my prized kitchen possessions, and I would hate to see the beauteous things get scratched, but I would love to free up countertop space. Reply Sarah November 20, 2015 at 11:57 pm Hi Pam! Thanks so much for following :) I love our magnetic knife holder and haven’t noticed any scratching… then again our knife set is just middle-of-the-road when it comes to quality. I will say, my husband sharpens our knives A LOT (at least twice a month). I have no idea why he likes doing this, but I’m sure he would be complaining if they were getting scratched. Thanks again!! xo, Sarah Reply Andrea November 20, 2015 at 10:44 pm Love every inch of your home and the love you put into the details. Would you mind sharing The paint colour and brand? Yes, the grout is the same for both the wall and floor. I found my supplies at a local art shop… but I believe the same brand is carried on Amazon. At first, I tried to improvise and use a gold frame from an existing piece, but it didn’t quite fit right. I ended up having my husband build the white frame that is shown in the images. I should’ve posted a DIY for the frame, he said it was super simple. Sorry I forgot to include the smaller objects; I’m happy to provide links. The stars can be purchased here. The candlesticks are no longer available… but they came from West Elm about three years ago. Unfortunately, the wall sconce is no longer available… it came from Ikea. You may be able to find it on eBay or somewhere floating around the web. Hope this helps!! xo, Sarah Reply Sara December 31, 2015 at 7:16 pm Where did you find the mirror above the fireplace? Reply Sarah January 2, 2016 at 2:36 pm Hi Sara, that actually came from a thrift store and the frame was a terrible 80’s brass, but it was a good heavy piece, so I bought it anyway. I spray painted it white. I think the entire project costs less than $20. Here’s a similar one though (with the thin white frame). Reply Erika December 31, 2015 at 8:26 pm What is the wall color? Looks creamy white? Reply Sarah January 2, 2016 at 2:33 pm We used two white colors throughout our home… if I remember correctly this one is Benjamin Moore Super White, but I also like Sherwin Williams Pure White. They’re really neutral and not creamy at all (it could just be the photo)… or if you’re looking at the gray wall- it’s Benjamin Moore Nimbus. My house is currently too small for a guest bedroom (I mostly host my younger siblings on my living room floor), but I can still use some of these tips. The water glass is a particularly smart one. Reply Sarah January 2, 2016 at 2:24 pm Thanks so much! I’m glad you liked it. I love having guests over and I want them to keep coming back… so I try to make things extra comfy and accommodating! xo Reply Lynne Polelle January 2, 2016 at 1:05 am Hi, Sarah, I’m totally in tune with your entire house, I’m so happy I found your site today. I am in the process of updating my house and have been looking for affordable solutions that fit my own style. I am srtuggling with the same focal point problem in my living room, which has floor to ceiling bookcases on one side, a view of Puget Sound on the other, and on the third side a full wall tumbled brick fireplace that was popular in the eighties. Your photos have given me the courage to paint it. Could you tell me where you buy your “animal skin” rugs? I thought they were called “Pony Rugs” but when I search for that I get tack supplies on the net. Thanks so much! Reply Sarah January 2, 2016 at 2:23 pm Thanks so much Lynne! What an amazing compliment. I’m happy I could help to give you some inspiration for your own home update. It sounds beautiful! Honestly, one of the cow hide rugs is from Ikea, and the other is from here. Hope this helps! xo Reply Whitney Shortt January 2, 2016 at 2:46 am The space looks great and like the couch cushions! Great job on creating two focal points that complement each other! Reply Sarah January 2, 2016 at 2:21 pm Thanks! The cushions were a quick fix and I surprisingly don’t hate them. Haha! I’m glad to hear you think the focal points are working well together! That’s always been my concern and struggle. xo Reply Whitney Shortt January 2, 2016 at 2:51 am Love the idea of including a fan and the bedding is beautiful! Reply Sarah January 2, 2016 at 2:19 pm Thanks so much!! I sleep with a fan, so I thought guests might appreciate having one. Reply Whitney Shortt January 2, 2016 at 2:58 am Love the color scheme! Did you build the bed yourself? It’s so beautiful! Reply Sarah January 2, 2016 at 2:18 pm Thank you, Whitney!! I designed the bed and purchased it through a vendor we carry at the design firm I work with. So technically, I didn’t actually build it or do the hard labor myself. Ha! xo Reply Jessika January 2, 2016 at 3:24 pm Love your whole renovation!! Do you have any tips for first time home buyers possibly interested in taking on a renovation similar? We live in the Dayton area as well and I was so happy to see your house on A Beautiful Mess!! Thanks! Reply Sarah January 2, 2016 at 5:35 pm Thank you, Jessika!! We weren’t intending to take on such a huge project, but after looking at this foreclosure, it fit out budget and with my husband’s handy skills, we were able to save a ton of money. It just made sense financially. With a foreclosure, sometimes the sale takes a long time and nothing gets inspected prior to the sale… I had no idea how the process worked, so that part was kind of surprising. There are so many hidden gems in Dayton! Our location is a little off the beaten path, so that also influenced the price of our home. I would recommend being open minded and looking at a ton of different options before making your decision. If we could have a do-over, we probably would find a home that needs work, but not a total renovation (plumbing, electrical, moving walls, etc). Our house was really trashed at the time of purchase and we completely gutted it. Hope this helps! Good luck!! xo Reply Ali January 2, 2016 at 10:03 pm Discovered your blog today after reading the ABM post and just spent the last hour reading through your archives! Love the blog and both your styles and I am excited to become a new reader! Reply Sarah January 2, 2016 at 10:23 pm Hi Ali, Thanks so much!! The bench can be found here. xo, Sarah Reply Donnatella January 3, 2016 at 5:10 am Omg! How did you get the brass base in the night stands? I really would love to add one to my sofa! Reply Sarah January 3, 2016 at 5:18 pm I contacted a custom cabinetry shop and purchased the laminate brass material, then my husband wrapped the bases for me. I wish I had better instructions, but I kind of just told him my vision and he made it happen! I think there was some sort of adhesive involved. Reply Lucy January 3, 2016 at 1:28 pm I’ve just read the post and oh my goodness it’s BEAUTIFUL. I love all of your rugs and am slightly desperate to know where they’re from! Thanks for sharing your beautiful home! Lucy xoxo http://lucyannblog.blogspot.co.uk Reply Sarah January 3, 2016 at 5:21 pm Thanks so much, Lucy!! The turkish rugs are both vintage, the shag can be found here, one hide was purchased here, and the other hide is from Ikea. I hope this helps; thanks so much for reading!! xo, Sarah Reply Carmen Gomez (Lilly) January 5, 2016 at 5:00 pm Love it all!!! That said, I think I implement a lot of good systems to keep what I do have well organized. I just did a post on our closet organization recently, and made a few of the same points you did. Great minds think alike and all that! http://lorimerliving.blogspot.com/2015/11/master-closet-organization.html XO, Jaclyn Reply Sarah January 6, 2016 at 8:11 pm Thanks for sharing! Great minds do think alike ;) xo Reply Whitney Shortt January 7, 2016 at 9:24 pm Love those bi-fold doors and how minimal your closet is. I’ve really worked on paring down my closet in the past year, and it’s actually really freeing when it comes to putting outfits together. Reply Sarah January 7, 2016 at 10:33 pm Thanks, Whitney!! It really does make a difference. Agreed! I think it’s easier to decide what to wear. I used to have so much trouble and I’d spend way too much time considering the options. Thanks for reading! xo Reply Carmen Gomez (Lilly) January 11, 2016 at 12:32 pm Closet Envy! I am a bit of a minimalist when it comes to my closet but I still can’t manage to organize it this pretty! So glad you liked the roundup :) xo Reply Kerrie January 19, 2016 at 11:56 pm Cute house! Would you mind sharing the color of stain on your hardwood floor? The tone is perfect! Reply Sarah January 20, 2016 at 12:52 am Thanks so much! The floor stain is Minwax Dark Walnut with a satin finish (on original oak flooring). Hope this helps!! xo Reply julia January 20, 2016 at 1:49 am Lovely unique ooak finds from Etsy and beautifully done – thank you. Reply Sarah January 20, 2016 at 2:05 pm Thank you, Julia!! xo Reply Marie January 20, 2016 at 4:23 am love them all! I’m curious– which did you pick/which do you have there usually? Reply Sarah January 20, 2016 at 2:09 pm Thanks, Marie! Usually I have a pair of vintage lucite nesting tables alongside my sofa (not pictured in this post), and typically it’s not so neat. Ha! I like to keep it simple- books, coasters, light fixture of some sort, etc. On a good day, I’ll add a tiny floral arrangement. From the post, I’m probably most attracted to the boho or masculine looks (although the glam is kind of fun, too)- tough choice!! Thanks for reading, xo Reply Carmen Gomez (Lilly) January 20, 2016 at 3:55 pm I love the leather jacket and the scarf I can see why your dog ate it , ha! Reply Jacqueline Brown January 20, 2016 at 5:09 pm Ha! I think she loved it just as much I do. After her emergency surgery, it has become one expensive scarf! Reply Kerrie January 22, 2016 at 4:19 am Hi Sarah, First off, thank you for your response on the hardwood floor stain. Your bathroom turned out great. I’m thinking of changing mine, which is smaller than yours:) i don’t have any storage and was interested in this vanity. Could you elaborate on the process you used to paint that vanity? I see you mentioned a special primer. Really appreciated you taking the time to answer my questions! Thanks again. Reply Sarah January 22, 2016 at 2:21 pm Hi Kerrie! No problem at all. Thank you for the sweet compliment. This vanity has a TON of storage and that’s what I love about it. I used Zinsser primer; it works really well and is a bonding primer. Prior to priming, hit it with a low grit sand paper, just to rough up the surface a little (little being the key word). After priming, let it dry completely… at least a day. Then apply two coats of paint, allowing it to fully dry in between coats. I used a semigloss finish since it’s in a bathroom. I haven’t had any chipping, bubbling, or peeling whatsoever and it’s been painted for over two years now. Hope this helps! Let me know how it goes, xo Reply Jenny December 10, 2017 at 7:25 pm Hi Sarah, did you add legs to the vanity as well? If so, do you mind sharing where you got them from? Thanks so much! Reply Sarah December 10, 2017 at 8:03 pm We did add legs! They came with the vanity from IKEA at the time… I’m not sure if they sell it as a kit anymore? Reply Carmen Gomez (Lilly) January 22, 2016 at 3:27 pm Love it! When can I make a reservation? Ha! I think my favorite thing is the little console table, it’s very unique looking and I love your fringy bedding. I would like to make a suggestion, I hope you don’t mind, for the nightstand I would try Howard’s Restore a Finish and Howard’s Wax and feed to give it back it’s luster. I have used this product and it makes my vintage furniture new again. You can ask Dana Miller, she recently used it on some furniture she bought for a client and on her boys dresser and she loved it (she blogged about it)! Then I would remove the tarnish from the hardware to give it, it’s original bright brassy color or you could replace it like you mentioned. Anyways the room looks lovely like the rest of your house! Reply Sarah January 22, 2016 at 3:55 pm Ha! Thanks so much :) I’m am ALWAYS happy to take suggestions and I’m totally going to try the Howard’s products. Now the hard part- finding time. lol! Thank you again; I really do appreciate it!! Happy Friday! xo Reply Carmen Gomez (Lilly) January 24, 2016 at 4:50 pm Your welcome, I’m glad you like the idea! Reply Jenna January 22, 2016 at 4:55 pm Hey Sarah! That room is beautiful! Love that car print. Random question…which color is your hallway wallpaper? I found the options on H&W. Thanks! It’s perfect, I like it styled the way it is in the pictures above. Both ways look beautiful, I rearrange my rooms constantly. It’s always fun shopping your own house and finding something that you feel works better in a certain space :) Have a great weekend! Reply Sarah January 22, 2016 at 6:06 pm Thanks so much Leah!! You made my day. I totally agree! I just trade things out, move things around, or I get bored. Plus, I can’t exactly buy new stuff all the time, so you’re definitely right- it’s like shopping at my own house to find a better option. I’m glad you do it too :) xo Reply Whitney Shortt January 22, 2016 at 6:26 pm Everything looks so pretty! I love the bed and that nightstand was a steal!! I shoot food shots in our bedroom sometimes too. You gotta go where the light is! Really looking forward to the DIY on the closet doors. I’ve been admiring them! Reply Sarah January 22, 2016 at 7:47 pm Thanks, Whitney! Yeah, I can’t believe the nightstand was so cheap, crazy. You’re exactly light- gotta find the best light! Closet door DIY is all put together and scheduled for next week :) Have a good weekend! xo Reply allison January 22, 2016 at 9:41 pm Love this! our pups are totally spoiled. i had my dad weld some awesome food bowl stands for my bloodhound and pointer! where did you get that rug? i love it! Reply Sarah January 23, 2016 at 2:19 am Of course!! You’ve got a great little shop and good eye for design… I definitely favorited you on Etsy. I fell in love with that white campaign dresser; I sure hope it’s going to a great home. xo Reply Lynne Polelle January 23, 2016 at 2:04 am I love your room! I am currently struggling with changes to my own bedroom – I have an almost -antique dresser, large, dark, curvy, with beautiful brass hardware but except for the bed, it dominates the room. My house is mid-century ranch, so the room is not huge, but I use my bedrooms like you do, it’s where I live my imaginative life. Your photos are making me think seriously about trying to sell the dresser! Reply Sarah January 23, 2016 at 2:17 am Thank you, Lynne! Sometimes it’s a struggle living in a small house with tiny rooms (at least for me anyway)… it’s a love/hate. Ha! I’m all about bright, open, and organized spaces- I’d say if your struggling with the piece, sell it and find something a little smaller or lighter ;) It sounds kind of amazing though; maybe it will find it’s way into another spot in your home? Good luck!! xo, Sarah Reply Nicole January 23, 2016 at 8:11 pm Just discovered your site, and am so excited to add this blog to my roster! And as a life long (miniature) schnauzer owner, I love seeing your pup popping up in photos (and in artwork.) I’ve been searching for a well-designed fan for my bedroom, both for the air and the white noise… can you share the source? Thanks so much! Reply Sarah January 24, 2016 at 1:13 pm Thanks so much, Nicole! I am definitely schnauzer obsessed, haha :) Unfortunately, my oscillating fan was purchased 5 or 6 years ago and is no longer available, but similar versions can be found here and here. Thanks so much for reading! xo Reply Mary Ann January 24, 2016 at 2:39 am Love the transformation of the fireplace mantle! Would you mind sharing the color of stain you used and how you did it…sanded first, stripped, etc. Also color and brand of wood floor? Thanks so much! Love the room!! Reply Sarah January 24, 2016 at 1:16 pm Thank you, Mary Ann! We used the same stain that was applied to our floors… Minwax Dark Walnut. The floors are oak and they’re original to the home. We sanded and refinished them. As for the mantle, first we sanded it really well- down to the grain, wiped it with a damp rag, let it dry, and then carefully stained. It ended up with a few coats of stain, so it turned out much darker than our floors. Hope this helps! Thanks again! Reply Leah Prevost January 24, 2016 at 7:35 pm I love the random thought post thing. Dana Miller at House Tweaking does it sometimes and I love clicking through the different links to explore new ideas and products. I personally love concrete floors! And concrete countertops. They have to be balanced out by other elements, like it shows in that article. And the eyebrow tattoo thing is genius!!!!!! I know women who’ve gotten eyeliner tattooed on and lup liner and it was beautiful. I think the word tattoo scares people, but using pigments makes it look soooooo natural! My Mom complains about her eyebrows almost daily, this would be the perfect bday or Xmas gift! Thanks for the good reads! Reply Sarah January 24, 2016 at 10:04 pm Thanks, Leah!! I love Dana’s linked & liked posts, too. Did you see the TED talk last week- that was a good one. I totally agree with you on the concrete floors and countertops. As far as the brows are concerned- I’m so excited!! I’ll be sure to give an update. I use brow pencil every single day because my brows are naturally blondish, so it will be nice not to worry about them. I bet your Mom would love hers done- great gift idea. Enjoy your evening! xo Reply JAN TODD January 26, 2016 at 2:26 pm what wonder ideas! The Doggie Daddy is very handy and know he could make this And Solid Gold pet food Rocks! Reply Leah Prevost January 26, 2016 at 5:28 pm I have an 8yr old Pitbull named King, and a 4yr old Chocolate Lab named Texas. When King was younger, before we had Texas, he suffered from really bad separation anxiety. At the time I shared an apt with my sister and I came home to find probably over 100 of her cosmopolitan magazines ripped to shreds!!! There was a good foot of shredded magazines on the floor all throughout the living room! Ha! I almost died! My sister wasn’t too happy. But once Miss Texas came into the picture he no longer had to stay in his kennel while no one was home, his separation anxiety went away! THANK GOD :) Reply Sarah January 26, 2016 at 5:31 pm Haha! That is so funny! Thank goodness Texas came along… otherwise you’d have no more fashion magazines to read ;) Reply Sandy Weinstein January 26, 2016 at 5:58 pm liked solid gold on fb, no instagram. my youngest who is 5 now, Harley, her most mischievous moments were climbing on top of the cover of the pen, walking across and jumping out. i could not figure how she was getting out, when the other girl was still in the pen. so i watched and saw as she jumped on the cover of the pen, i kept one part covered from the sun, and she would walk across it and jump out. then there were other times when i would come home and she and her 1st cousin, who is 6, Tressa, had destroyed the house, the covers were taken off the furniture, the puppy pads were shredded, plants taken out of the planters, pillows on the floor, took me over 4 hrs to clean up the mess. Reply Brett Blevins January 26, 2016 at 9:39 pm What an awesome gallery! Finn and Piper are lucky to have such attentive owners, and they’re both very attractive dogs. One day several years ago when my family was grilling out in our backyard, our black lab, Gizmo, managed to sneak away with an entire package of hot dogs from our picnic table! We had given him one or two as a treat just a few minutes before, and then we found him nose-deep in the package a few feet away. It seems that dogs can always find a way to make their owners laugh and smile! Reply Viktorija January 26, 2016 at 11:11 pm I wasn’t sure if cats counted too…! I have two felines, Tupelo Honey & Trixie. I walked into my bedroom one day to find a lump in my bed. Trixie had crawled into my bed (so under the coverlet, but on top of the sheet — not sure how she managed that) and was happily snoozing away, entirely covered by blankets! I’m not sure how she was breathing. But she loved it! p.s. Liked on Facebook and Instagram! ;) Reply Sarah January 26, 2016 at 11:58 pm Haha! That’s so cute. Thanks for sharing! Of course cats counts, too :) We’re fans of all four legged pets. Reply Carmen Gomez (Lilly) January 27, 2016 at 12:38 pm Oh such a simple and beautiful entryway! It’s so subtle and classy and would blend with any decor that might be seen in adjacent rooms. Of the rest over at Coco & Kelley, I surprised myself and loved the industrial wire pairing. Great, fun post! Reply Sarah January 27, 2016 at 8:36 pm Thanks, Erin! I surprised myself with that exact same option. I have the wire option in my mudroom. It’s not something I’m normally attracted to, but I like it! Maybe for the front entry, I’ll choose a chic or feminine option. Kudos. We’re hoping to renovate our kitchen this year and I would love to incorporate this project. I always have to move my dog Nell’s bowls when we have anyone extra gathered at our table. She’s a giant- a Great Dane mix so the elevated height is key. I’ll be pinning this for sure. Well done! Reply Sarah January 28, 2016 at 12:40 pm Thanks, Erin! Obviously we’re big dog lovers over here… Nell sounds adorable! We’re having guests stay this weekend, and I had the exact same thought: it’s nice to not have to move the dog dishes to the basement.xo Reply Erin @ Indigo House January 28, 2016 at 11:40 am Oh and Nell’s most mischievous moment: It’s a tie between chewing my leopard print (favorite) heels and trying to “hide” under the kitchen table at dinner time. She’s a moose and couldn’t figure out how to get out. Reply Sarah January 28, 2016 at 12:41 pm Haha!! Piper does this with Jacqueline’s dining table and it’s hysterical. Big does who don’t realize how big they actually are… lol Reply Carmen Gomez (Lilly) January 28, 2016 at 4:43 pm Beautiful! My five year old Dalmatian Mila is bad to the bone but so dang cute. She’s chewed phones, shoes, sunglasses and even chewed a hole in our leather couch. She’s ate raw chicken breasts, protein bars, a bag of un cooked rice and even stole a foot long sandwich right off the counter. Even though there have been many mischievous times for her I would say that the most mischievous would be when she brought a dead lizard in through the doggy door and brought it with her into my bed. I had no idea That she had brought her dead lizard with her to snuggle in bed with me and you can imagine my shock and surprise when me boyfriend walked in and pointed out her hidden treasure in the bed! Reply Sarah February 3, 2016 at 12:29 pm Ohhhh my gosh! It’s a good thing Mila’s cute! haha ;) Reply Carmen Gomez (Lilly) February 3, 2016 at 3:16 pm Great tips, I use the same fertilizer too. I love plants and this was my first year adding succulents. I had no idea that in the winter they were in dormant stage and I ended up killing two of them by over watering them as if it was summer :-( very sad about that. I also didn’t know that I shouldn’t re-pot them in the winter either, which I am happy to have learned from this post, I have some new plants that I just bought containers for and haven’t had time to get around to it, so I will wait to that in the spring. I also have a few plants with no drainage wholes that I added rocks to the bottom and they have been happy for years in their pots. It’s like you said with some trial and error and reading tags, looking them up, asking around…. it gets easier. Reply Carmen Gomez (Lilly) February 3, 2016 at 3:24 pm Sorry, the paragraph under the snake plant next to the desk there’s typo “it really doesn’t matter than much” Reply Sarah February 3, 2016 at 4:02 pm Thanks! Corrected and updated ;) that’s what I get for late night drafts. Ha Reply Carmen Gomez (Lilly) February 4, 2016 at 3:40 pm It happens to the best of us! Reply Leah Prevost February 3, 2016 at 6:03 pm I have an obsession with plants too. And you’re so right, they do best when you don’t fuss over them. But when I do my regular watering I find myself smiling and talking to each plant haha! They seriously make me happy. I read your other 2 posts you linked above and I’m going to pick up a few of the plants you listed. Loved this post. Have a great day! Reply Sarah February 3, 2016 at 6:08 pm I’m the same way… glad I’m not the only weird one ;) ha! So happy to hear you liked the post. Enjoy your day too, Leah! xo Reply Megan February 3, 2016 at 10:57 pm Such a great makeover! So chic! Reply Sarah February 3, 2016 at 11:34 pm Thanks, Megan!! xo Reply Kerrie February 4, 2016 at 3:19 am Great post! I’m going to try those fertilizer sticks. How often are you watering your snake plant? I was told to water once a month or even less, especially in the winter. Unfortunately, I’m noticing some dried out tips on the plant. I’m thinking of shortening that watering schedule to every three weeks or so. Reply Sarah February 4, 2016 at 12:39 pm Thanks, Kerrie! I love the fertilizer sticks- they’re so easy. I usually water my snake plant once every 2-3 weeks; it maybe gets 2 cups of water. Just be sure the soil is dried out before watering and you should be good. Hope this helps! xo Reply Julia February 4, 2016 at 5:35 am Liked and followed! We’ve only had our silly 3 yr old shepherd/collie mix for 6 months, but she is quite a character. Her most mischievous moment so far was this past Christmas season. Unbeknownst to me, my fiancé had been home and fed Luna dinner earlier in the evening. I came home late from work and she acted like she was starving. I fed her, only to learn that it was her second dinner (in a 1/2 hour)! Reply Sarah February 4, 2016 at 12:40 pm Thanks for entering. Ha! Maybe Luna considered that her Christmas dinner (or feast). So funny! Reply PhillyLass February 4, 2016 at 1:36 pm I’m loving all of your gorgeous planters and pots! Where did you get the pot on the kitchen window sill and the pot that holds the cactus? Those are exactly the kinds of containers I’ve been searching for without success! Reply Sarah February 4, 2016 at 1:46 pm Thanks so much! The pot in the window sill is vintage. I love finding vintage planters on Etsy, Ebay, or at estate sales. The planter holding the cactus is from Crate & Barrel. Unfortunately, this is a tough time of year to find planters. Give it another month and spring items will resurface online! Good luck ;) Reply Christina Z February 4, 2016 at 2:42 pm My girl Sable is mischeivious when I leave if I dont put trash can in kitchen behind the kitchen door. I will come home open front door and she will run out with her head down past me to the porch. Sure enough their will be a trail of trash all through dining room and kitchen. I have tried everything to keep her out of it but nothing works. She doesn’t do all the time either but when she does she knows its wrong too with her head down running on porch. Reply Carmen Gomez (Lilly) February 4, 2016 at 3:39 pm I’m all over the second look, love the cognac leather accents and the pretty lace detail on the shirt, I would pair those pieces with some jeans too! Reply Delaney February 4, 2016 at 8:17 pm Oh, I love them both so much! I totally agree though, stripes will always be the top of my list. Reply Delaney February 4, 2016 at 8:40 pm This is awesome, thank you so much! I’m just getting into my plants & I love having them so much. Do you have any tips specifically for succulents? x Reply Sarah February 5, 2016 at 1:45 am Thanks, Delaney! Succulents are definitely one of my favorites. Depending on the type of succulent, I like to use a spray bottle for watering (rather than pouring from a cup or pitcher). They don’t take a ton of water- especially in the winter; be sure to allow the soil to dry out completely. My succulents are usually the happiest in or near the window sill with lots of light. When repotting them, make sure to use a sandy soil or one that doesn’t retain too much water. Hope this helps. Good luck! xo Reply Beverly Whitley February 4, 2016 at 8:47 pm Where is the recipe? Reply Beverly Whitley February 4, 2016 at 8:49 pm Where can I find the recipe? Reply Sarah February 4, 2016 at 10:08 pm Hi Beverly, the recipe is linked in the article. Jacqueline adapted this cake recipe. Let us know how you like it! Reply Julie February 5, 2016 at 6:52 pm Hi Sarah! I love the bedroom especially the fringe bed spread, corner seating nook and that fantastic end table. Do you take your own photos? Reply Sarah February 5, 2016 at 8:41 pm Thanks so much, Julie!! I do take my own photos. I’m slowly improving at shooting interiors. My usual subjects have always been food and packaging, so this has definitely been a transition. Have a great weekend! xo Reply Lindsay Bade February 6, 2016 at 1:18 am My dog’s name is Nova and she is always getting into something! We are finally getting out of the puppy stage though I hope! She has eaten kid’s toys, chewed on a table, eaten the carpet when it was 3 weeks old…. I could keep going but this makes her look bad! lol She really is a good dog and saved my heart when we lost our other one. I am going to have to attempt this project for her. It looks amazing! Thank you for the chance to win some goodies for my baby! Reply Sarah February 8, 2016 at 12:15 am Nova sounds like a sweetheart! Thanks so much for entering. xo Reply Allison Hoffman February 7, 2016 at 12:51 am My dog Talou would love to win this prize! He is a Malamute mix and when he was younger he was VERY mischievious and would chew and destroy lots of things when he was home alone and bored. He chewed holes in the couch and then when he destroyed other things he would stuff the remains of them in his holes in the couch. One time I found a whole bagel and a stick of butter in the couch :) Naughty! Reply Sarah February 8, 2016 at 12:14 am Haha!! A bagel and a stick of butter in the sofa?! What a bad (but hilarious) puppy ;) Thanks for entering! Reply Jane February 8, 2016 at 4:21 pm Hi Sarah! Do you know what stain your wood floors are finished in? Thank tou! Reply Sarah February 8, 2016 at 4:51 pm Hi Jane, the color is Dark Walnut by Minwax! Reply Lindsay Hamilton February 8, 2016 at 5:42 pm Finn would love to win this awesome prize! Always looking for new and healthy foods! Finn is a miniature double doodle who just turned 3. As he has gotten older, his mischievous self has been extremely well behaved. But when he was a little over a year, he was always at my feet wondering what I was making in the kitchen. I decided to boil chicken to shred for a dip I was making, when Finn decided to be sneaky. I placed the cooked chicken on the counter after it was cooked to cool. Ran to the other room, and before I knew it….the chicken was gone! Ate the entire chicken breast in seconds!! This was only one out of many times he has pulled this fast move. Silly pup but wouldn’t trade him for the world! Reply Sarah February 8, 2016 at 6:45 pm Ha! I’m still waiting for my Finn to become extremely well behaved ;) Reply Sarah February 11, 2016 at 3:08 pm Hi Lindsay! Our first winner’s time has expired, so you’ve been randomly selected for the prize! Please email email@example.com with your address, so we can schedule your items to be delivered! Reply Ashley Dean February 8, 2016 at 6:00 pm Our white schnauzer Baxter is so incredibly smart. When we had an apartment we kept him in a room with a gate when we would leave. We came home one day during the holidays and our Christmas tree was moved quite a few feet from where it was. At first we thought someone broke in but then we walked over to his room the gate was down on the floor but he put himself back behind it as if to say “it wasn’t me”. I just about died laughing because normally when anyone comes over he runs to the door barking up a storm but he played it so cool. We couldn’t even be mad for a second. Reply Sarah February 8, 2016 at 6:46 pm A white schnauzer?! Baxter sounds adorable… then again, I am a bit biased ;) Love the story! Reply Jenn Keefer February 8, 2016 at 8:43 pm Hi! I have two dogs, a Lab named Finn and an Australian Cattle dog named Rocco. They are great and terrible at the same time ;) I could say a lot of things involving the destruction of furniture, shoes, wooden spoons, etc. but who wants to reminisce about hard times? Finn loves to talk back, gather all the toys in the yard in one area which he claims as his own (usually by peeing around the territory…frequently), and stand on his back legs and beg when he wants something…a trick he can only remember when he wants something, naturally. Rocco is well behaved, a bit clingy, and super protective of his momma. His mischievous side is usually taken out on, directed toward, and involves setting up Finn because, well, he’s smart. Reply Sarah February 8, 2016 at 9:13 pm Finn and Rocco sound like quite the pair!! :) Reply Kelly February 8, 2016 at 11:49 pm I have two dogs – Jock, a Cairn Terrier, and Piper, a Westie. When Jock was just six months old, we mistakenly left a Christmas cheese ball on the kitchen table and went to another room. Jock quickly figured out how to get on a chair, then to the table to eat the entire cheese ball. Needless to say, although we make sure to NEVER leave any food on the table and push in our chairs he never fails to find a way on to double check all food is gone. Jock is completely driven by food. Piper is a complete love bug and although she loves a treat she just wants love. Reply Kelsey labbe February 9, 2016 at 12:33 am I have a 6 month old Puppy, his name is Reuben! He has such a personality, but his naughtiest/ cutest escapade so far was one morning when I was in the shower, my cats knocked my knitting project off the counter and the puppy had a blast with it! I came out of the shower to find yarn spanning across three rooms of the house and Reuben was sitting proudly with my dish cloth hanging from his mouth on the couch. It was a mess and the project was ruined but he was so cute I could help but laUgh (and take a picture)! Can’t wait for all of the other mischievous yet adorable messes he gets himself into through out our years as family! :) Reply Megan S February 9, 2016 at 1:10 am We never thought our adult girl would settle down but she has while maintaining the joy and sense of adventure she had in her younger years. As a pup and adolescent it was daily that Lucy was into something to the point of complete destruction. She was crated when we weren’t home and one day she managed to dig through not just the bottom tray of the crate but through the carpet all the way down to the slab. Nowadays, she defaults to food thief and waffle burying. She sneaks away with the kids’ waffles and hides them in various closets, under furniture and in the dirty laundry. It’s always good for a chuckle to come upon one of her treasures. Lucy has become the perfect playmate for the kids and companion to our entire family. Her naughty deeds as a pup have us cracking up today. Reply Sarah February 9, 2016 at 1:10 pm Aww, love Lucy girl (and her waffle stealing)!! xo Reply Sarah Cauble February 12, 2016 at 3:05 am Would you mind sharing the source of the nightstand? Reply Ashley | Free Wills Studio February 12, 2016 at 7:13 pm I totally agree! I’m a color and print fanatic but go all white when it comes to dishes. It’s the same exact one mines is a little lighter in color it looks weathered kind off unfinished and it has the same (uncreepy) nail details and creases on the fingers and palms. I had to come straight over when I saw it on my Facebook feed. Yours seems a little bit darker than mine but still weathered and with a little sheen mines is more dull. Did you wax it or do something to achieve that look? I love this piece, a few days ago I was wondering where could I find another one, but I guess I will just have to let one my other rooms borrow it because there’s no tag or marking with the makers info. I’m all excited about this, it’s so funny! Enjoy styling it around the house! Reply Sarah February 15, 2016 at 5:57 pm Ha! That’s cool! There’s another weird hand out there in the world ;) I haven’t done anything to it yet… it was in great shape when I found it a few days ago. Definitely a fun piece and conversation starter! I think the texture on the handle of number 5 might get dirty looking, I don’t know. I like number 6 but I am not sure I would like it for the kitchen, for me it would be better suited in a bathroom or furniture piece. I also like number 7 but it doesn’t come in a variety of sizes so that’s something to keep in mind if you will have some longer doors than others :-/ Ok now moving on to the bin pulls, I like 1, 2 and 4 and Sarah’s kitchen bin pulls are very nice too. Lastly for the knobs, my favs are 1, 3, 5, 6 and 8. 1 and 3 are my fav, fav though. Again Sarah’s knobs are very nice too, I would use those too. Well my job here is done, if you need my none expert, hardware loving opinion again please don’t hesitate to ask, ha! Reply Amy Lynn February 18, 2016 at 4:36 pm I love brass hardware! We are in the middle of a whole house renovation, but unfortunately we won’t be staying when it’s done :( we’ll be selling and moving, so I’m not going to waste beautiful hardware like that on this house. So, I had already decided that the new house we will be living in (it’s a rental from family, so I know what it looks like/am free to change things however I want) is DEFINITELY going to have brass hardware :) I’m still a sucker for bin pulls, but those cleaner lines are starting to grow on me too. I’m not sure which ones I will go with! Reply Megan February 19, 2016 at 3:04 pm Love this! It’s pretty hard to narrow down my favorites. I highly recommend checking out Colonial Bronze. Find a showroom nearby so you can check out all the options and to see all their finishes. They’re made in the USA and solid brass. LOVE THEM! Reply Sarah February 19, 2016 at 6:06 pm My kitchen hardware is actually all from Colonial Bronze. Totally agree- great company and great products! xo Reply Vanessa June 14, 2017 at 7:43 pm What color is your hardware from the colonial bronze collection? Reply Sarah June 14, 2017 at 7:48 pm Antique brass Reply Heather February 19, 2016 at 3:52 pm Hi – you have done a really lovely job. Could I ask about the paint on the fireplace? I have a similar fireplace, and am getting ready to paint. But I can’t decide if I should use flat, satin or semi gloss? Any insight? Thanks so much. Reply Sarah February 19, 2016 at 6:05 pm Thanks, Heather! We used a semi gloss because we wanted it to match our trim. The textured brick is definitely a challenge to paint, but once it’s finished it will disguise the finish a bit. Be sure to clean and prime it first! xo Reply Leah Prevost February 22, 2016 at 4:57 pm This post was not weird at all lol. I think every woman loves earrings! I use to have multiple ear piercings and am now down to just the one on each ear. But after reading this I’m kind of tempted to go get another one! I have a million cute ones in my cart that I’ve found on Etsy. Earrings have come a loooong way. I’m loving all the tiny earrings you’ve found! I just might take a trip to the mall today :) Reply Sarah February 22, 2016 at 5:57 pm Ha! Good! Thanks, Leah. I think I had stared at ear images wayyy too long. Earrings really have come a long way- there are SO many good options. If you make a trip to the mall, good luck ;) xo Reply Jen February 22, 2016 at 5:18 pm So cute!! Where are the earrings you have on from? Reply Sarah February 22, 2016 at 6:00 pm The long, skinny, pointy (geometric) one is actually from H&M… they’re sold out now, unfortunately. The tiny stud is from Claires and is the one they pierced my ear with. I still have a few weeks until I can trade it out! xo Reply Oksana | FOXYOXIE.com February 24, 2016 at 4:02 pm I am so giddy with excitement at having discovered Room for Tuesday – all thanks to a photo of Sarah’s dining room that I came across on Pinterest last night while on a desperate search for tubular chair reupholstering tutorials. You ladies are amazing and oh-so-talented, and I cannot wait to read every single article, because everything I’ve seen so far has been very inspirational. My husband and I are currently renovating a 1930 bungalow down in TN. It was previously abandoned for 20 years, so it has been a long process. We grabbed a balloon there for my daufhter’s 2nd birthday back in December and it’s STILL UP! I also would have gotten all the things if my littles weren’t with me. Dying to go back solo and do some major damage ;) Reply Sarah March 8, 2016 at 12:42 pm Yes!! So many cute things. Happy Day!❤️ Reply Laurie Dorn March 8, 2016 at 1:18 pm We downsized to a 1966 single level brick ranch in desperate need of a complete overhaul. We are living with a patchwork of original hardwoods full of carpet tacks, two types of beat up laminate, vinyl tile, retro pink ceramic tile, and last but not least TWO rooms of subfloor! Our hallway is dark, long, and narrow. It needs a lovely ray of sunshine to disguise its time worn laminate and give it a vision for the future! Reply Sarah March 22, 2016 at 11:39 am Congratulations Laurie!! You’ve been randomly selected as the giveaway winner. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org within 24 hrs to claim your prize. I bet your Corgi would love a new runner ;) Reply Lydia March 8, 2016 at 2:25 pm My husband and I are in the process of buying our first home – a 1914 fixer upper! I’ve been eyeing the rugs from Ecarpetgallery for the last few weeks and am dreaming about how perfectly they would look in our new space – specifically our upstairs hallway! <3 Reply Sarah March 8, 2016 at 5:05 pm Sounds awesome! Good luck with the purchasing process. Our situation sounds super similar. xo Reply Leah Prevost March 8, 2016 at 2:27 pm I like the way your new runner doesn’t steal all the attention in the hallway. It brings everything together and you end up noticing all the details. I would use a runner in the hallway of our upstairs. It’s similar to the look of your hallway. Mine too would have dogs laying on it, it seems whenever I get a new rug they think it’s a new dog bed :) I Love Finns eyes in that picture ugh he’s so handsome. Reply Sarah March 8, 2016 at 5:06 pm Thanks, Leah! That’s exactly what Finn thinks- it’s a new bed. Ha! I run into that problem often… low profile because of a door. Reply Anna C. March 8, 2016 at 3:40 pm My entryway needs a runner in a bad way. For some reason the previous owners put tile in there even though it is open to the living room that has hardwood. It is a weird transition and the tile is just beige and blah. It needs a runner. My number one priority is a long runner for the kitchen with the master bath and powder room both a close second. I have a highly neutral design aesthetic so finding the perfect rug that fits the bill but still makes a statement has been a challenge. Good luck, xo Reply Leah Prevost March 17, 2016 at 1:45 pm I just repotted all my plants earlier this week and I mixed my potting soil too. I spent over an hour at Home Depot with my 6yr old son picking out succulents. It was a blast. I also stopped at Ross and picked up 5 planters, 2 big ones and 3 small ones, for the same price I would’ve paid for 1 at Home Depot! I don’t have a fiddle fig but I do have a fern in my living room, it’s beautiful. Reply Sarah March 18, 2016 at 12:04 am I always spend forever in the garden center at Lowes and Home Depot! Sounds like you came out with a lot of great stuff ;) xo Reply Velonda March 12, 2017 at 10:17 pm Sarah ~ I just re potted my fiddle fig tree I followed your directions to a T it already looks much happier, is there anything else I should do for it? What about firtilizer? Or plant food? Do you ever use any of that kind of stuff for Fiddle fig trees? :) Reply Sarah March 13, 2017 at 2:37 pm So glad to hear that, Velonda! I do use fertilizer and this is the perfect time of year to start. Read this post for more. xo Reply Mendy March 24, 2017 at 3:31 am Please help – my fiddle leaf only has 2 leaves left but just sprouted a new baby leaf. The only problem is that I have a ton of gnats in the soil. Is this bad? Should I report? It’s so delicate, I’m afraid of shocking it and killing it. Reply Rachel June 18, 2017 at 2:04 pm Hi, Mendy! I live in South Texas…bugs o’plenty down here! :( When we get gnats in our houseplants, we use Mosquito Dunks. You can buy them at Home Depot, etc. Just break them up into tiny pieces and spread them on the top of the soil. Water them and the gnats should die out. It’s worked really well for us! https://www.amazon.com/Mosquito-Dunks-102-12-Killer-Pack/dp/B00LET25AE/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1497794625&sr=8-3&keywords=mosquito+dunks Reply Sarah June 19, 2017 at 2:08 pm Awesome tip, Rachel! I am smitten with your dressing room, and wondering about a couple things…first the designer of the globe pendant?! Beautiful!, second the white paint you used?! Did you use the same color for baseboards trim, walls, and ceiling, and what is the name of the white? Thank you Reply Jacqueline Brown March 22, 2016 at 1:03 am Hi Susie! Thanks for the sweet comments on the dressing room. The globe pendant light was from Serena & Lily…however, I believe it is sold out. We linked a smilier option in the post. The white paint we used was Sherwin Williams “Pure White” trim paint and the walls are Sherwin Williams “Rhinestone”. The ceiling was left over from the previous owners, so I do not know the specific color. Reply Sarah March 23, 2016 at 2:18 pm Funny you should ask!! I wondered if anyone would notice… during the shoot, a glass was reflecting and causing lens flare, so I traded the side. Then it bothered me that they weren’t consistent, so I moved all the glasses (and totally forgot to put them back after that one shot). Ha! I’m on the hunt for a circular mirror for our upstairs bathroom right now. I love all the accent mirrors you posted. I think I could find a spot for every single one! I’m definitely needing that one with jewelry hangers…genius. And the drop accent mirror. And I’ve wanted a mirror like the 3rd feminine mirror for a while. Great picks Sarah! I can try to put one together for you in the next week or two, if more readers would like that type of post :) It was definitely a lot of fun. Enjoy your weekend! xo Leah Prevost April 9, 2016 at 2:30 am That video was hilarious! I had to watch it a few times lol. I would kill my dogs too if they did that! Haha! I’m totally doing that DIY mud cloth pillow thing. I “ohhhhhh’d” out loud when I saw the last of the 3 bags. Maybe it’s because I have a slight love/obsession with carmel, tan, brown, leather bags. I have a lot. Lol. And Target is sooooo dangerous. I love that your friend only buys what she can carry, I might have to try that next time I’m there. I’ve been working on the outside of our house recently too, trying to up the curb appeal. So I know I would like posts about landscaping and outside design! Keep telling yourself to take time for yourself!!!! You deserve it. Have a great weekend Sarah April 9, 2016 at 2:41 pm I think you’ve sold me on the last bag. Thanks for your help and for the sweet words :) Hope your weekend is fabulous too!! xoxo Reply Tricia April 9, 2016 at 3:09 am Love this! Where is the doorknob on the black door from?! And what black paint is used? LOVE your work! Reply Jacqueline Brown April 19, 2016 at 2:17 am Hi Tricia! The doorknob on the black door is actually original to the house , which was built in 1941. The black paint color is Onyx by Benjamin Moore. xo, Jacqueline Teri April 9, 2016 at 10:07 pm That outside pocket would decide it for me–perfect for the cell phone. #1 ftw. Sarah April 10, 2016 at 9:34 pm Such a good point! I also love the simplicity of that one. Thanks, Teri! xo Reply Lisa April 10, 2016 at 10:45 pm Your blog is so beautiful and great! I’m a beginner with house plants and just starting to go with real rather than faux. This may be a silly question, but how can you tell when the soil is dried out completely? Is it just dry to the touch? Does it need to be dry at the bottom too? Thanks Sarah! Reply Sarah April 11, 2016 at 3:35 pm Thanks so much, Lisa! Not a silly question at all… yes, you definitely have to feel it. Sometimes the soil can be dry on top, but saturated at the bottom if you don’t have proper drainage. I usually insert a spoon to check a sample. It should crumble and not feel globby, if that makes since? Once you learn how much water your plants need, you probably won’t need to do this again. Hope this helps! Jaclyn Lorimer April 11, 2016 at 5:16 pm I try to do that at Target too and always end up with arm strain by the end of the trip, lol! Sarah April 12, 2016 at 7:17 pm Same here! The struggle is real. Ha! xo Reply Karen B. April 13, 2016 at 2:45 am Hello, I’m interested in finding out the model information for your Delta faucet and drain. I’m going to be purchasing the IKEA Godmorgon/Ovensvik cabinet and sink combo and want to get nicer fixtures to jazz it up a bit. Were you able to use a standard size pop-up drain? Thanks so much! Your bathroom is an inspiration. :-) Reply Sarah April 13, 2016 at 10:23 am Hi Karen! I have these faucets installed. We ended up using the Ikea chrome drain, I believe… because it was a better fit and I didn’t mind the way it looked with the faucet. The drains are pretty simplistic and minimal. Hope this helps! Good luck! xo Reply Maria Cleary April 15, 2016 at 12:48 pm Sarah, Love this article!!! It has inspired me to give it a go. Reply Sarah April 15, 2016 at 1:02 pm It’s so much fun, Maria!! Enjoy your weekend!! xo Reply Gaby April 16, 2016 at 3:31 pm Such a great project! Thanks for the inspo! Question: Did you mix the two colors in one tub or have them in two separate tubs? Thanks! Reply Sarah April 16, 2016 at 9:50 pm Thank you, Gaby! Good question… I should’ve specified that I mixed both colors in the same container. It creates a deep and saturated indigo color… I feel like it’s a bit richer. Let me know if you have other questions! xo Reply Gaby April 18, 2016 at 1:33 am Thanks for the info! Cheers! Reply Holly April 17, 2016 at 11:42 am These look amazing! All of the patterns are so unique. I might’ve to get crafty outside now that Spring is finally here in Canada. In the C and C it looks more yellow. Thanks! Reply Jacqueline Brown April 17, 2016 at 10:11 pm Hi Ally! I used the same cake recipe as Emily did on Cupcakes and Cashmere. The color variation may be a result of lighting or photography. Either way, it was still delicious! Let me know if you decide to try it out. xo, Jacqueline Reply Ally Roz April 22, 2016 at 1:53 am Thank you for your reply! I plan to make it for my birthday in July..if I can wait that long. Haha! Thanks so much and I’m so looking forward to following you now that I’ve discovered you! Cheers, Jenn Reply Sarah April 20, 2016 at 1:08 pm Thanks so much, Jenn!! What a nice compliment :) The paint color in the dining room is Evergreen by Sherwin Williams. xo Johnna LaFaith April 20, 2016 at 2:48 pm These are fun. Man… I have hang ups about my neck… I always want to wear a ponytail but I HATE how it looks. These are some really pretty options though. Ashley | Free Wills Studio April 21, 2016 at 5:29 pm These ponies are pretty awesome. I especially love the ribbon wrapped one. I’m with Johnna- I find it hard to like the way I look in ponytails, but that’s why it’s so great when the ponytail itself is interesting and beautiful. Loved these ideas! Jacqueline Brown April 21, 2016 at 9:16 pm Thanks Ashley! I totally agree with you – it’s always fun to try something new. Plain old ponytails can be boring, but I think these could look great on anyone! :-) xo, Jacqueline Reply Holly April 22, 2016 at 11:50 am That photo you posted is running Sarah! Reply Ruth Chase April 23, 2016 at 6:32 pm Question, if you a minute. I just repotted my plants for season and when I did my peace lily, now I had five plants in one whe I got this was the first time I separated them and I thought I had it right down the middle but cut a bulb in half, will this hurt my plant? Thank-you for your time my name is; Reply Sarah April 24, 2016 at 4:30 pm Hi Ruth, I wish I knew the answer to your question, but I haven’t had experience with splitting peace lilies. They seem pretty resilient, but splitting the bulb may be an issue. Luckily, this is their growth season, so hopefully it will be ok. Let me know how it goes! xo Reply Leah Prevost April 26, 2016 at 4:30 pm Awesome gift guide!! Reply Sarah April 26, 2016 at 6:32 pm Thanks, Leah! Reply Sarah April 27, 2016 at 1:07 pm I’ll let Jacqueline respond to this one, but I know she puts them away for the fall and winter and she just got them back out last weekend. From what I know, they look really good! Reply Jacqueline Brown April 27, 2016 at 10:31 pm Hi Brittany! We have only had the set for one year, so it’s hard to say how it will hold up long term. We used the set outside for about 4-5 months last spring and summer and overall it looks pretty good. The only thing I will say I have noticed this year is some fading…the wood does not seem as dark, but that will happen to a wood set when it sits out in the sun over time. We loved this set because it gave us a great space to entertain outside on a budget. So far we have been very happy! xo, Jacqueline Reply Ashley | Free Wills Studio April 28, 2016 at 12:41 am LOVE Last Man on Earth! And that vintage portrait DIY idea- so cool! :) Reply Sarah April 28, 2016 at 2:51 pm Glad I’m not the only kooky one who watches it. Luckily, my mom isn’t an abstract kind of art lover, so I’d totally keep it!! :) Ha! xo Reply Brooke Williams April 29, 2016 at 4:57 pm Love her work! I agree with Rachel – selfishly, I’d keep it because it’d be the perfect addition to our new mantle. But, I’d love to gift something this beautiful to my mother! So torn. I’ll definitely keep the painting as a reminder of that quote. Reply Kirsten April 30, 2016 at 1:30 pm I love Holly’s work. May 3, 2016 at 3:17 am Hi Sarah, Just a few quick things….I’ve been following your blog for several months now and I love it. Your style is impeccable and I love everything you do! Your photos are amazing and are a beautiful compliment to your posts. I had read this post back in January when you originally posted it, but you never updated us on whether or not you went through with it! I have blonde eyebrows like you and, also like you, must use brow pencil every day. Your post actually got me thinking about doing this, and after much research in my area decided to have it done. I’m actually getting it done this Sunday! Would love to know your experience, what you asked for, etc. Will you have an upcoming post about it? Thanks! Reply Sarah May 3, 2016 at 12:55 pm Hi Laura! Thanks so much for the sweet compliments :) I’m actually having it done this month, so you’ll beat me to it! My aesthetician said there will be 3 sessions and I do know that she numbs the area before beginning the procedure. I’ll post an update once it’s all finished. Good luck!! xo Reply Amy May 3, 2016 at 3:36 am You site looks beautiful! Thanks for introducing us to her lovely work, Sarah! Reply Amy Lynn May 5, 2016 at 3:37 pm I love that pillow! And we don’t have as many on our bed, but that’s pretty much the same thing I do. Blankets get yanked to the top and pillows go over haha! But even with as easy as that is, I’m still the worst about actually making my bed. Love it when it’s done, but never seem to do it! Reply Sarah May 5, 2016 at 4:56 pm Thanks, Amy! It’s such a good size. I’m with you- my bed is all sorts of disheveled in the mornings. I just give it a pull, hide the mess, and go on with the day! ha ;) xo Reply Megan May 5, 2016 at 3:44 pm Loves so lovely! Do you mind sharing your other bedding sources? Sheets/Duvet cover etc? Thank you! Reply Sarah May 5, 2016 at 4:55 pm Thanks, Megan! I’m actually working on a bedding post… but my bed is sort of a random mix. The duvet is from West Elm, the sheets are Parachute, the bed pillows are a random mix of Tempurpedic and down pillows from Target. Some of the pillowcases are from Macys. ha! It’s just an accumulation of things over the years. xox Reply Ann Heltzel May 7, 2016 at 9:43 pm Tempurpedic pillows. To quote Nike “Swoosh! Just do it!” Best pillows to sleep on Ever! I thought my dh, was crazy for spending so much on a pillow til he was gone on a business trip and I tried it. Reply Sarah May 8, 2016 at 4:56 pm Ha! Yes, I wasn’t sure at first, but I’m loving the Tempurpedic pillow. Reply Danielle B. May 5, 2016 at 9:35 pm I think I would be a little selfish this year, and keep it for myself. I am a newly single mom of a 3 year old, so I have to be in charge of getting myself a gift this year, would love some bright cheerful art in my life right about now! Reply Jennifer Hayden May 5, 2016 at 10:28 pm Luckily for me, it fits more with my decor so she would be ok with me keeping it. Beautiful!! Reply Leah Prevost May 6, 2016 at 1:57 pm I have a huge piece I had bought from pier one about 5yrs ago that I got sick of and painted over and did not like the end result. So I’m going to try this now! It looks insanely gorgeous in Jaquelines living room. Reply Sarah May 6, 2016 at 5:05 pm Thank you. Yay!! I decided nothing helps a rainy Monday like a little shopping ;) Reply Erin May 11, 2016 at 2:18 pm Do you water your tree a few days ahead? I’ve heard that can help makes the roots not so brittle. I’m about to repot mine so I need all the advise I can get! Thanks Reply Sarah May 11, 2016 at 3:41 pm Hi Erin! Yes, water it 2-3 days in advance… it just helps to transport the root ball (making it not so dry and crumbly). Mine is doing great! There are 4 new recent leaves this week. xo Reply Pam Tanner May 12, 2016 at 2:46 pm Beautiful spaces, Sarah. I love your style! Because I’m struggle to keep my house plants alive the gorgeous, HEALTHY plant in your dining space caught my eye as well. Could you please tell me what it is? (And recommend any others you’ve had good luck with?) thanks!! Reply Sarah May 12, 2016 at 2:53 pm Hi Pam, Thanks so much!! The tree in my dining room is a fiddle leaf fig (ficus lyrata). May I ask where you file and white planters and the dining table? Thank you! Reply Jessica May 12, 2016 at 3:28 pm Found the white planters* 😆 Reply Sarah May 12, 2016 at 5:24 pm Thanks, Jessica! The dining set was actually a piece I inherited from my father. I believe it was from Pier1… but here is an amazing vintage set, or a similar set. Reply Pam Tanner May 12, 2016 at 3:54 pm Thank you , Sarah! After posting my comment I started exploring your site more and found your “catagory” on gardening and plants. Especially appreciated your one on caring for your house plants… pinned that one! had so much useful info! I won’t give up!! :0) Reply Lisa May 12, 2016 at 4:03 pm Where’s your outdoor rug from? And how big is it? Reply Sarah May 15, 2016 at 12:53 pm Hi Kyla, it’s 18″ tall by 20″ in diameter. You can find it here or here. Reply Nina August 15, 2017 at 5:06 pm Thanks for sharing Sarah! I will pick up my Fiddle Fig Tree this Sat. Can’t wait ☺️! Where do you buy your no drainage pots? Reply Sarah August 15, 2017 at 7:41 pm You can find them at local greenhouses, big box stores (Lowes) or online… they’re pretty accessible! I like Modernica planters. Reply Louis May 17, 2016 at 10:40 am My peeve is the electric toothbrush. It’s ugly, it has an ugly cord that has to be plugged in, it’s hard to hide. One day I’ll see if an electrician can put an outlet INSIDE my vanity! Also, there’s not enough space for hanging towels in the small bathroom. I’m thinking of switching to hooks, but worry the towels won’t dry well enough. Reply Ashley May 17, 2016 at 12:54 pm Hi Sarah! Do you happen to know the sources of the images you used on the paint swatches? I’m dying to figure out where the pony artwork is from in the living room image on the neutrals palette! Reply Sarah May 17, 2016 at 1:37 pm Hi Ashley, I believe that print is by Natural Curiosities… but I’m not seeing it in stock. It was one of my favorites at High Point Market last year! Here’s a bunch of similar pieces. Reply Ashley May 17, 2016 at 3:00 pm Thanks so much! Reply Ashley May 17, 2016 at 5:32 pm You should have a look at this gorgeous coffee table book, The Gardener’s Garden. That is a pretty one. I might have to add that to the list ;) xo Reply jyothi krishna May 18, 2016 at 4:31 pm Hi Sarah,I recently bought our first house and i am very much interested in having few indoor plants. I bought a ficus Pandurata Bush tree from Home Depot. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Delray-Plants-8-3-4-in-Ficus-Pandurata-Bush-in-Pot-10PAN/203380954. Should i repot this tree now or wait till next spring to do so?do you suggest a self watering pot for this tree or a regular planter with a drainage? Thanks in Advance. Jyothi Reply Sarah May 19, 2016 at 12:07 pm Hello! It’s just fine to go ahead and plant it now- just make sure the planter you select isn’t too large for it. I prefer a regular planter with drainage as opposed to a self watering pot. Hope this helps, good luck! Reply jyothi krishna May 18, 2016 at 4:38 pm Soooo beautiful…Major love. Reply Sarah May 19, 2016 at 12:05 pm Thank you!! I see posts of wonderful places on the internet but when I go to the airbnb website, I’m overwhelmed with much less inspiring options. I’m fairly new to reading your blog, so forgive me if you have posted about this before. Thanks, LRC Reply Sarah May 24, 2016 at 3:46 pm Hello!!
