Patio Reveal
With the official start of summer right around the corner, I could not think of a better time to share our patio makeover with you. The first time we walked through our house, I fell in love with this space. I envisioned string lights between the house and the detached garage and I was sold. This spring we put the inside of the house on hold and focused completely on the patio. We wanted to create a beautiful outdoor living area to enjoy during the summer months – a place to entertain family and friends. In case you missed it earlier this spring, you can see our initial plans and inspiration for this space here.
Since the patio gets so much sunlight throughout the day, I wanted to create two separate spaces – a lounging area and a dining area. Doing this was a bit of a challenge since the space is not huge, but it works. The chaise lounger is the perfect place to sun bathe or relax and enjoy a glass of wine while reading a magazine. I love this turkish towel for covering up on cool summer nights.
The brick oven was one of the biggest projects. Before, they were the same rusty red color you see in the flooring. I knew we weren’t going to use the brick oven as it was intended, so I decided to do something fun with it. I painted it to break up the color that was used throughout the rest of the space. By painting it white, it became a focal point of the patio. I painted the top black for contrast, then added some round logs, lanterns, and plants to fill the rest of the space. The top doubles as a great sideboard when serving food as well!
The fire pit is a great entertaining feature; guests can pull up a chair or sit on one of the floor ottomans and roast a smore.
There is just something about dining outdoors that I love! Maybe it’s the fact that we live in the midwest and only have that opportunity a few months each year. The table selected can be easily converted to provide additional seating for larger parties if needed. We have already hosted a few get togethers and are taking full advantage of cookout season this year!
Next year, we may add an outdoor rug to cover some of the damaged bricks on the patio. Or as my husband would prefer, redo the bricks all together. That sounds like a big project we may tackle down the road!
There you have it – the patio is officially our new favorite outdoor living space and we are happy spending as much time as possible outside this summer.
