Noteworthy BedroomAs you know, we’ve been diligently working in our backyard- in the dead heat of summer. It’s been tough, challenging, and sometimes a struggle, but I’m happy to say- next week I can finally share the reveal and finished space! I think I might actually declare next week ‘Backyard Blog Week’, as I plan to post a different DIY each day of the week. Stay tuned for that if you’ve been following along! In the meantime, click through to see what’s new…

In chatting about the backyard, it’s been HOT in Utah this summer. I can tell you one thing we despite about our house… having a swamp cooler. Emmett and I had never even heard of these mystical contraptions until moving to Utah. Living in the Midwest, we always had central air. You know… a thermostat and complete control. Maybe we just have an old unit, but the swamp cooler is driving us crazy. It’s unpredictable, leaky, and makes the entire house feel damp. The coldest the interior gets on a hot day is usually around 77 degrees. We try to escape the heat after working hard and doing a ton of physical labor, but it’s tough. One of these days, when we do the add-on, central is happening. Hence the intro image of our guest bedroom in Ohio… I miss that place and alllllll the glorious AC.

We honestly haven’t worked on the interior of our home since starting the backyard project nearly a month ago. Emmett and I both agree that it will be a nice change of pace to get back to indoor projects and knock things off the to-do list. The living room and bathroom are at the top of the list. We’re also excited to start planning the kitchen overhaul this fall / winter!

I can’t tell if this is creepy, weird, or cool. You decide- then let me know. So strange!

I scrolled across this post on Instagram the other day and laughed so hard! If this isn’t true, I don’t know what is. I feel the same way about changing the white sofa slipcover. Ha! I’m actually washing that thing right now before our guests (see below) arrive. Every time I clean it though, I’m always disgusted, yet incredibly satisfied. I don’t think I could ever have a non-slipcovered sofa again. The amount of dirt and grime that comes off of that thing is unreal… and I’d like to think we’re pretty tidy people! I wash it about once a month because the dogs are allowed to hop up and snuggle if invited.

I’ve been dreaming of a getaway. Sadly, since I was just in the Midwest for business and a family wedding, I’m not going anywhere far anytime soon. I was looking back at images from the time Emmett and I stayed in this shipping container on the beach. Too bad teleporting isn’t a thing. That spot sounds dreamy right about now.

Everyone and their mother is pinning this image, and for good reason! I just want a client who is willing to drop 9k on an amazing range. But really… the day I get to put one of these in a kitchen is the day I feel accomplished. Who needs a designer for their custom kitchen? Ha!

Also in dreamland, THIS outfit would be in my shopping cart. I want to wear overalls or giant wide leg pants SO BAD (bad enough that I’m screaming it), but my figure just doesn’t work with that style. My brain and inner fashion connoisseur says yes, but my body says no. Can any of my fashionable followers help me out? How can I make this 70s style work?

In other outfit news… I found my new favorite shoes. I’ve been wearing these nonstop. They go with everything, they’re flat, comfortable, and appropriate for summer- even though they’re booties. Win, win, win.

We have houseguests flying in on Thursday and we’re eager to have barbecue and cocktails outside this weekend in our (hopefully) newly finished yard. The couple visiting are two of our oldest high school friends- both were in our wedding, which is coming up on the 5(!) year mark. Long story short, we have lots of fun outdoorsy Utah things planned for them- hiking, paddling, awesome food, and great views! I’ll try to share some behind-the-scenes peeks on my Insta story this weekend.

Speaking of the weekend, I’m abandoning the blog for the remainder of the week to finish and shoot the backyard! Check back next week for all things yard…. FINALLY. I’m sorry for those of you who hate outdoor projects- I know this one has been a long time coming and a major time suck. I’m really excited to share the entire thing and hear your feedback. Until then, everyone have an awesome week / weekend and I’ll see you back here next week? It’s a date!

I love so many things about this post!! and I think the prison thing is borderline creepy AF.

    1. I think I agree. Ha! xo

        Hey Sarah-
Oddly enough, Greg and I JUST stayed at the Liberty Hotel in Boston last week! It was fabulous! It’s located in the Beacon Hill area so it’s within walking distance of lots of great eateries and shopping. The amenities are to die for and the names of all the restaurants and bars are very catchy (Alibi, the Clinq, the Catwalk, the Yard). I highly recommend it if you are ever in that area- not creepy at all. :-)

        1. Hi Rita! Thanks so much for the suggestion. I’m definitely adding the Liberty to my list. That sounds like so much fun!! We want to do an East Coast trip soon. If you guys are ever planning a trip back to Utah or Moab, let us know! We’re happy to show you around :)

  2. I really like your blog a lot. I’ve been back and forth between your blog, YouTube videos and Instagram all weekend. That was a major time sucker for me, lol. But it was oh so worth it. I feel a little obsessed lol. I happened upon your blog when I was looking for closet solutions and immediately remembered you from a House Tweaking feature. I’m not sure why you don’t have 100k followers on Instagram as you clearly are super talented and have a really great writing voice.
I’m also OCD about keeping a clean home. So your posts motivate me to clean and tidy up even more.
I love your sense of style as I’m all about the neutrals too. Your closet and home both appear to be curated. I’m excited to work on your little diy clay planters , soy candles and that delicious layered chocolate cake you made some time ago.
I’m looking forward to the backyard reveal. Wish you much success!
P.s. Back to the closet you put in. I love how built in your closets look but my reach in closet is about 26 inches deep. I couldn’t find a way to change it on the site. Would you say the depth of your closets played a role in the finished product? Thanks so much!!

    1. Wow!! Thank you so much, Tracy. You made my day! I really appreciate the awesome compliments and to answer your question about the closet… the depth definitely played a role in the design. I used the Space Creation tool on ClosetMaid’s website and they do have a few different “standard” configurations. The towers I ended up with are about 16″ deep. I also have small closets. The 26 inches in your closet shouldn’t be an issue. I would give them a call and ask why it won’t allow you to change the dimension. Backyard reveals are happening everyday next week! xo

      1. Yay! Thank you so much for responding. I’m only speaking the truth. But I’m oh so glad I could make your day. I have been back and forth on the site all week. Calling them is a good idea. Thanks again! Blessings

  3. DANG! Love those shoes and I’ve had them pinned forever it feels like beacause they were already sold out in the colors I wanted. :( Now Every color, but Charcoal is sold out in my size, but I worry they’re too dark. (Really love the pink.) What color do you have, Sarah?

    1. They’re so good! I have them in the camel color. I’m tempted to buy another pair in a different color because I love them so much. Ha! xo

  4. Oh my gosh, I moved from Wisconsin to Utah and my current house only has a swamp cooler too, so I feel ya! So. dang. hot. Ugh. And that thing about the duvet cover is spot on. I literally lol-ed!

    1. With a name like ‘swamp cooler’ you know it has to be bad. Ha! I’m glad I’m not the only one struggling through it. xo

  5. Elizabeth says:

    1. Thanks so much, Elizabeth!! xo
