As someone who has suffered from longterm, severe allergies and asthma, I don’t know why it took me so long in my adult life to get an air purifier. That seems like the responsible thing to do, right? Self care should be a no brainer! Growing up, my mother was constantly taking the precautions to ensure my symptoms were under control. I always had an air purification system in my bedroom, special pillowcases, and frequented the doctor’s office for regular tests and treatments. I was the kid in elementary school who had the inhaler packed in her lunch box and went into the nurse’s office twice daily for my medication.

I took my beloved (and ancient, at that point in time) air purifier off with me to college. After graduating, getting married, and moving a couple times, I’m not sure where it ended up. I guess I had other things on my mind, but I never replaced it. That is… until last month! Between moving to Salt Lake City a couple years ago where air quality and pollution is a BIG deal, surviving an insane amount of drywall dust that comes with the territory of renovating, and knowing there’s a pretty substantial amount of pet dander floating around our house from the beloved dogs, I knew we were wayyy past due in finding a solution. Oh yeah, and Emmett also has pretty bad asthma & allergies- we share meds… cute couple alert. That was a joke, but seriously- he steals my inhaler and sneaks my prescription allergy pills because he forgets to refill his own. Fun times over here at the Gibson house, ha!

How We're Breathing Easier - roomfortuesday.comLong story short, I shopped around for air purifiers and they were all ugly. I don’t care how great something works- if it’s a giant monstrosity or eyesore, I’m not likely to bring it into my house. Luckily, I stumbled across Molekule’s new product and it was pure fate that they asked me to test it. I’m so glad I did, because it is actually making a difference without looking out-of-place in our house. The image above was taken the day it arrived. Ok, ok… I’ll admit, I liked the nice packaging too (shown above). You can’t take the designer out of this lady.

How We're Breathing Easier - roomfortuesday.comI thought I’d share some happy surprises I discovered after using the purifier and some features I’m really liking. From both design and functional point of views, I really appreciate the following:

  • The sleek minimal design– and the pretty leather handle.
  • The easy-to-use app that connects to our wifi, so we can control it even when we aren’t home.
  • The portability… I rotate it between our living room and master bedroom.
  • It’s super quiet… Emmett hates loud technology and appliances.
  • The cord is perfectly hidden! You know I hate visible cords.
  • It has a dark mode. I like sleeping in total darkness, so I schedule the dark mode in the evening… that way it doesn’t interrupt my sleep.

As I mentioned, I float the device between our bedroom and living room, because that’s where we spend the majority of our time. It’s really easy to move back and forth, and it effectively cleans rooms up to 600 square feet- which is far more than we need in the spaces combined. To put things into perspective… our entire home is only 1,110 square feet.

How We're Breathing Easier - roomfortuesday.comJust look at how perfectly the cord wraps into the bottom of the unit, so you don’t have excess showing. THAT was the best surprise when firing this baby up and finding a spot for it.

How We're Breathing Easier - roomfortuesday.comIn regards to the app, setup was a breeze. It asked extremely detailed questions, such as… the age of my home, the square footage, how many pets I have, etc. It’s crazy that this smart device takes ALL of that into consideration when cleaning the air. It’s more customized than I anticipated. I’m pretty sure they thought of everything.

How We're Breathing Easier - roomfortuesday.comBelow, you can see how I set the device to “dark mode” and the blue light turns off…

How We're Breathing Easier - roomfortuesday.comNow let’s get down to the nitty gritty! I also wanted to share some tech specs that Emmet and I spent time researching and nerding out over…

  • The Dual-Filtration System // Each air purifier comes with two filters: a Pre-Filter and a PECOFilter. The Pre-Filter captures larger particles such as dust and pet hair, while the PECOFilter is coated by the proprietary catalyst that breaks down pollutants at a molecular level when activated by light.
  • PECO // What is PECO, you ask? It’s also known as Photo Electrochemical Oxidation… this patented technology works at the molecular level to eliminate indoor air pollution.
  • Efficiency // Molekule doesn’t rely on high-powered fans, making it energy efficient without compromising effectiveness.

One of my goals coming into the end of the year is to establish a better routine and make healthier life choices. I feel like checking the air purifier off my to-do list was a step in the right direction. Coming into the season where air quality is the absolute worst in Salt Lake (if you’re wondering about the inversion I speak of- check out this video), I know we’ll be breathing easier now that our Molekule is destroying pollutants at a molecular level.

How We're Breathing Easier - roomfortuesday.comWe’ve been using the air purifier for almost two months now and believe it or not- I can already tell a difference. Normally, Emmett and I would both be popping allergy meds on the daily, and now we’re both taking them on an as-needed basis… which is absolutely bonkers, given we both struggle every October as the weather changes.

How We're Breathing Easier - roomfortuesday.comWe’re also combatting pet dander and I have noticed a significant amount less, in regards to pet hair floating around the house. I’m OCD about vacuuming and it’s very obvious that our Dyson Animal canister hasn’t been as full when the time comes to empty it. I’m not sure if it’s the absence of Finn (bless his heart), but we now have a new puppy– which still equals TWO dogs under one roof. I’m convinced it has to be the air purifier.

How We're Breathing Easier - roomfortuesday.comTo wrap things up, I’m really impressed with our newest house gadget. I wish I would’ve taken the step years ago to breathe more easily. Just like a healthy diet, our environment plays a big part in our well-being. I feel like sometimes that’s easy to forget! As someone who invests and cares about my home and the things within it, I’m going to start paying closer attention to keeping my interior a positive and healthy environment. It feels pretty great saying goodbye to air pollutants like dust, dander, mold, viruses, and bacteria in our home with basically zero effort.

  1. This technology is fascinating; definitely a purchase worth considering. We experience “orange” air quality alerts even in our rural area. ☹️ Funny, I had just been wondering about the square footage of your home. I found 1200 sf to be a pretty comfortable size as long as we had a nice yard, smart storage and a garage. Although, it does require restraint in the vintage hoarding department…and I love the second bathroom in my current home. Also, seems like your new styling accessory’s training is coming along swimmingly! OMG, the puppy eyes.

    1. The vintage hoarding department definitely requires storage. Ha! I feel like we’re pretty comfortable- my biggest complaint is not having a garage. We have so many tools and tons of outdoor equipment / gear. That’s the only issue. That, and maybe when guests visit because we only have 1 bath. We both have large families and it’s tough when our siblings and their kids come to visit.

Hi Sarah – Did you look at other products, like Dyson? I’m having a hard time finding comparison reviews… would love to better understand the differences and pros/cons, if you looked into them!

    1. Hi Jane! I did. In fact, I love Dyson… I have the super sonic hair dryer and animal cordless vacuum made by them. I just didn’t love the way the dyson looked and it didn’t have smart home integration like the Molekule does. It also doesn’t have the PECA filtration- and air pollution is a big deal where we live. Hope this helps! xox
