DIY Bath Caddy Tray

DIY Bath Caddy Tray - roomfortuesday.comI’m the type of gal who really enjoys spa-like luxuries. This year I’m also trying to focus on self care and devoting more time for things I enjoy. I’d say I’m off to a good start because I convinced Emmett to tackle a DIY I’ve had on my list for awhile now… a bath caddy! I resort to a bath for a number of reasons- if I’m feeling under the weather, if I need some alone time or want to do some deep thinking, if I’m stressed out it helps me relax, or if I need some pampering (moisturizing, face mask, hair treatment, etc). Today on the Interior Collective, I’m sharing a fresh DIY that looks like it costs so much more than it actually does. Click through for result!

DIY Bath Caddy Tray - roomfortuesday.comLike I mentioned in the intro… I really enjoy a good soak in the tub. The older I get, the more often I find myself hopping into the bath for some R&R. That means I’ve had plenty of time to decide what my ideal bath caddy looks like.

DIY Bath Caddy Tray - roomfortuesday.comI gave Emmett my criteria for the ideal bath tray and he customized it to fit my needs:

  • It had to fit my laptop (I catch up on emails and Pinterest in the bathtub- sadly, I’m not joking).
  • It had to have an edge around the tray so that my phone or items wouldn’t accidentally slip off into the water (I’m accident prone and could see my phone sliding off).
  • It had to have handles for easy maneuvering.
  • I wanted it to have a natural wood element (obviously I’m loving that trend).
  • Stylistically, I wanted it to work with our existing bathroom design.

I have to say- this project turned out better than I could’ve imagined and it really is super functional! I’m pretty impressed and feel like this might be Emmett’s best DIY project to date.

DIY Bath Caddy Tray - roomfortuesday.comIt looks like it cost much more than it actually did, and I love that he made it just for me. It’s really something special I’ll keep and use forever.

DIY Bath Caddy Tray - roomfortuesday.comI was shopping at Anthro one day and came across gorgeous hardware that reminded me so much of our bathroom floor tile. It looked like it was made to live in our bathroom, so I snatched up a pair of the pulls with no particular projects in mind. Our vanity already had hardware and the space is so small, there really wasn’t a functional spot I could think to install them. As soon as this project came to mind, I knew they’d be absolutely perfect!

DIY Bath Caddy Tray - roomfortuesday.comThe tray itself is really heavy. It’s made of solid wood and Emmett added some protective measures on the bottom to ensure it wouldn’t slide around or off of the bathtub ledge.

DIY Bath Caddy Tray - roomfortuesday.comThis project is also easy to customize for your personal style or bathtub. The possibilities for design, shape, and overall aesthetic are endless.

DIY Bath Caddy Tray - roomfortuesday.comI tried to shoot the bath caddy exactly as I use it. Typically when I’m soaking, I’ll apply my favorite face mask, hair oil treatment, and settle in with a good book or do some pinning on my laptop… of course a cocktail or glass of wine is also necessary for optimum R&R (that goes without saying). If I’m feeling extra festive, I’ll also light a candle (this is the one I’m currently burning).

I’m pretty obsessed with it and would probably pay a premium if it were in a store- simply because I enjoy taking baths, I’m into the way it looks, and it’s really very functional.

DIY Bath Caddy Tray - roomfortuesday.comDo you guys also like to indulge in a relaxing bath or try to make time for self care? As I get older, I’m learning how important it is. Don’t forget to hop over to the Interior Collective, if you want to save the step-by-step tutorial!

  1. Where will you store it when it isn’t in use? This is always what puzzles me about bath caddy pictures. Yours goes so well with your bathroom and is so beautiful I hope you have a place to store it and show it off in the bathroom, even when you’re not in the tub. Your handle purchase was so serendipitous, they go great with the tray and your bathroom.

    1. Thanks, Jennifer! I tuck it in the linen closet after using it, so sadly it’s not on display. Ha! It is very functional though, which is the reason I wanted one in the first place. xo

  2. I love this tray and would love to build one for myself! Unfortunately, the tutorial you link to on Interior Collective brings me to a ‘Privacy error’ page. Is there any chance of you uploading this DIY to your own site so it can continue to be referenced?

  3. Seconding what Danielle said, hoping for the DIY instructions so I can build this for my wife!
