Cozy Bedding Update for the Season

Master Bedroom Update for FallIt’s definitely getting colder here in Utah and as we prepare for a (hopefully) snowy winter and the holidays, I’ve been making seasonal changes around the house. One of the biggest updates has been getting new bedding for fall and winter. I thought I’d reshoot the bedroom and show you guys how it’s looking these days. It’s definitely more cozy, darker, and a bit more colorful- in a desaturated palette sort of way. Click through for the new tour and resource list…

Navy, Cognac, and Neutral BedroomStep into the master and have a look! Our bedroom typically looks like this in the spring and summer, but I’m a big fan of swapping things seasonally for both functionality and aesthetic purposes.

In addition to heavier bedding, I also wanted to darken the space a little. We already had a bit of navy in the space from the nightstands (although they weren’t always that color), so bringing in dark blue bedding was an obvious choice.

I added this plaid throw to the foot of the bed that is the perfect palette for the room! Throws are super practical… you can snuggle up with them to read, watch TV, take a nap, etc. I could go on and on. They’re also really handy when guests are staying over and you’re scouring your home for extra blankets.

At the top of the ‘Loves’ list? The grid gallery wall with the vintage ski art. I’m still pretty obsessed with that. Living in Utah and being avid skiers, these vintage prints are so fun and fitting in our home. If you’re interested in creating your own grid gallery wall… check out this post for art ideas, tips, and even exact layouts to replicate.

We hardly ever use the overhead light on the ceiling fan. The room is pretty bright during the day and gets a lot of natural light, and in the evening, we rely solely on the sconces. I love that they hinge and we can control our own from either side of the bed. I often read while Emmett dozes off to sleep, and it’s the perfect amount of light without waking him.

We totally got another one for the bedroom. It hides on the back of my nightstand and makes the room smell amazing! It puts me in the best mood as I go to bed each night.

navy nightstand with fun styling- roomfortuesday.comIf you’re wondering what’s on the ‘dislike’ list… there are some things we’re not loving as much as we thought we would in the bedroom. I have to say, I’m not stoked with the functionality of the window treatments and I’m totally to blame.

cozy master bedroom for fall and winter with plaid bedding - roomfortuedsay.comThey look beautiful and they do give us privacy, but I 100% should’ve opted for the blackout shades and spent the extra money. Typically privacy shades are enough, but our neighbors have extremely bright lights they leave on 24/7 (super annoying), and it definitely filters through the roman shades. I’m the type that likes a room pitch black when I’m sleeping, so that’s definitely my biggest regret in this space.

Do you guys have any favorite items in the bedroom? I have a hard time nailing down my best finds and most coveted items. The bed is definitely a piece I can’t see us parting with anytime soon. We’ve had it for years and love it! I custom designed it, but linked something similar in the roundup.

  1. I love swapping out bedding in the winter. Our bedroom is all very monochromatic, but I added some warm just accent rugs on either side for the winter and they give such a nice boost of color. I also need to know where your matches are from…ha! I’ve been looking to an alternative to keep out in place of the grill lighter…haha

    1. That sounds amazing! The frames are from Michaels… they were super cheap. The matches are from a local shop (Alice Lane Home)- definitely prettier than the grill lighter, haha!! xox

Sarah! You’ve done it again! This is my favorite bedroom, Love, Love, Love it ALL. Just in time to buy some holiday presents for my oh so spoiled son in St. Louis. Buying the linen as soon as my next 20% off coupon comes by email. And LOVE the big pillow. Diffuser, NOW. OMG, I’m at work and have to get off this page.

    1. Thanks so much, Ann! Your son is a lucky guy. Ha! Have a great Monday!

  3. It looks beautiful! As far as the light coming in at night – we had the same issue in our bedroom. I mounted inexpensive roll-down blackout shades inside the window frames right under the mount of our current roman blinds. I’m not sure if it would work in your windows but it could be worth a try. We can’t see them when the blinds are open and they’re rolled up, and we roll them down first, and then close the shades. I need TOTAL darkness to sleep so I feel your pain!

    1. Thank you, Rachel! Such a good solution, I’ll definitely have to look into that! xox

  4. Love this room and really wish the sconces were in my price range. Can you turn them on/off right on the main bulb area? So convenient. Further, can you install some cheap-o blackout roller shades tucked up under the roman shades to pull down in order to block the light? I don’t think you’d see them when the roman shades are up.

    1. Thanks so much, Kelly! Yes, you can turn them on and off at the bulb area as well. I thought about installing the blackout shades behind the romans, but part of me wonders if I should just sew an additional layer onto the back of the shade. Decisions, decisions! xo

  5. OMG NEED those sconces. Love the whole look – gorgeous. I love summer, but when the cooler weather starts to creep in, I get sooo excited to bring out my cozy winter bedding lol. I splurged on a down duvet from Canadian Down & Feather Company a couple years ago and it’s my favourite.

    1. Thanks Heather! I’m also excited to bust out the cozy bedding… but it is still pretty hot here. Haha! I can only dream of having a Canadian down duvet- that sounds glorious :)
