A Moody and Modern Dining Room

dining room bar cartI am so excited to share our moody and modern dining room with you, just in time for the holidays! This room has been a work in progress for over a year – and by that I mean we have been adding bits and pieces a little at a time. I have to say we are quite happy with how it all came together and even though we are not hosting Thanksgiving this year, our home might finally be a viable option.

If you haven’t marked this one down already…Hague Blue by Farrow & Ball is just as pretty in person as it is in pictures. When we moved into the house the walls were painted baby blue (yuck). Since the rest of our house is pretty light and airy, I wanted something a bit more dramatic for the dining space. I was also set on a fun chandelier and the one we found fits perfectly in the room. Sarah and Emmett were kind enough to hand down their vintage mid-century dining set before their big move. It is one of Piper’s favorite “hiding” places.

I am highly indecisive when it comes to making decisions for our house sometimes (just ask Sarah…ha). After searching high and low for the perfect bar cart, we finally landed on this pretty acrylic piece. It adds a different element to the room and I love how everything seems to pop on it. It also allows the space to not feel so heavy with the dark walls in the room.

We were pretty excited seeing as how expensive real custom drapery can cost! I believe the entire project cost us around $100…  you can’t beat the price!

dining room and entrywayTo me the dining room is one of the most important rooms in the home. Dan and I cook most meals at home and hardly ever eat away from the table. We not only enjoy our evenings here together, but we love hosting friends and family in this space. We also adore having a room that feels formal enough for a fancy home cooked meal, yet casual enough to host friends for a game night. If you’d like to bring an element from this space into your own home, here’s how to get the look:
