A Chic Bedroom

Giant Schnauzer in a Chic BedroomThere is one room in my house that is ever-changing… and that’s the guest room. It’s been my office, a place for friends to stay, and sometimes a catchall for anything and everything. Since we’re gearing up to list our house, I thought this would be the perfect time to rearrange it one last time. It’s styled back to it’s original purpose- a chic bedroom, but guests are going to have to fight Finn for it. He’s obviously smitten with the new bedding and is staking his claim. Art Filled BedroomLately, I’ve been on a roll with finding cool vintage pieces. I was super stoked to find these vintage velvet upholstered ottomans at an estate sale. The soft, neutral blueish gray tone can be paired with almost anything.

If you follow along on snapchat (@sar.gibs) you probably laughed as I tried to load this heavy bamboo nightstand into the back of my SUV. I found this thing in a parking lot!!! I’m not evening joking. It was the luckiest day of my life. Apparently, someone wanted to throw this beauty away, so I quickly snatched it up. Kalyn gave it a little facelift… check out the before & after:

Bamboo Nightstand BeforePretty amazing what a little paint and lacquer will do, right? I actually found a new product that is really cool. Rather than spending the time on multiple steps for lacquer, I found a spray can of  “triple thick glaze” that worked wonders! It’s sort of a one stop shop for ultra high shine furniture. If you’re looking for full DIY instructions- check out Jacqueline’s nightstand tutorial.

Teal and Brass Bamboo Nightstand

Nightstand StylingSince moving my desk out of this space, the floor plan makes so much more sense! By turning the bed and using a built-out architectural element as the other nightstand, this room actually feels spacious (never a word I previously would’ve used to describe it).

Feminine Bedroom

Nightstand ObjectsI updated the bedding with a neutral and affordable Nate Berkus bedding set. Finn immediately thought this was for him and didn’t hesitate to snuggle up (even though we have a “no dog on the bed” policy, ha!).

Chic BedroomI actually felt sort of guilty for making him move because he looked so cozy… probably because he was giving me reaalllly convincing puppy dog eyes.

Soft Bedroom

Velvet Vintage OttomansI also scored a couple amazing velvet Calvin Klein pillows from my local HomeGoods. I like that it has a hand-dyed look, but feels a bit edgier because of the material and color palette.

Velvet Pillow

Abstract Art in bedroomIf you’re wondering about that art, during my little getaway to North Carolina, I stumbled upon an abstract artist while browsing at a local interior shop. The timing must’ve been perfect because we had just connected in regards to a collaboration when I realized the piece belonged to her! Look for a brand new Artist Spotlight in the next week or two.

Teal Bamboo Nightstand in Chic Bedroom

Pink Roses on Bamboo NightstandI was really getting tired of the old monochromatic color palette. It felt SO nice to bring in a little color, pattern, and layer objects that feel a bit more sophisticated.

A Collected Bedroom

Velvet Parsons OttomansIf you’re wondering where everything is from, you can shop the post below. What pieces are your favorite? Which look do you prefer: this updated version or the older, neutral edition?

Hi! Absolutely love how this turned out. Did you just use one can of spraypaint to paint the nightstand? I have a very similar set of nightstands that I want to paint using your DIY instructions but I’m trying to estimate how many cans I’ll need. Thanks!!

    1. Thank you, Grace! I think I used a couple cans.
