4 Gender Neutral Nurseries for Baby Brown
Hi guys! Jacqueline here. As many of you already know, my husband and I are expecting our first due this fall. One of the first things many people asked me when they found out we were pregnant was, “Do you have ideas for the nursery?”. To be honest, I didn’t even start thinking about the nursery design until after we found out what we were having (SPOILER ALERT: IT’S A BOY). I always knew the nursery would be pretty gender neutral. I am not a huge fan of bright, primary colors especially in a nursery. However, if we would have been having girl I would have gone with a more soft, feminine vibe verses the fun and playful vibe you will see in some of the designs below. That’s not to say these can’t be used for a little girl’s room because they definitely can be (you may just choose to add some florally wallpaper into the mix). Needless to say, I am stuck and I need your help! Check out the four gender neutral nurseries below and tell me which one is your favorite. Don’t be shy – tell me what you love/hate about each room and we will see which one becomes Baby Brown’s new room! All of these nurseries are still in the very early stages of design, so the final design may be slightly altered from what you see here.
Before I share the design ideas, let me share a little about my vision for the space: We are in the process of turning our guest bedroom into the nursery for our little guy. This space was never quite finished and became a store-all for random things around the house (we may or may not have had unpacked boxes in the closet from when we moved here three years ago). We are planning to add some much needed organization to the closet space and add new doors to the bedroom and closet. For some reason that I will never understand, the previous owners decided to use slotted pantry doors for this bedroom. This left very little privacy for house guests and obviously would not work for a sleeping baby (not to mention how hideous they were). We also plan to add black-out shades (a must-have in a baby’s nursery), remove the awful ceiling fan and install wallpaper to one wall. I have been itching to wallpaper something in our home since we moved in and I have finally convinced Dan to let me! Perseverance is key. Ha!
NURSERY DESIGN 1: ANIMAL VIGNETTESÂ
Right now, this is one of my favorite designs we have come up with! When I was sourcing wallpaper for the room I stumbled upon this adorable dog wallpaper and I was completely obsessed! I have gone back and forth about it, but I’m not sure I can quite pull the trigger (I’m afraid I might be overdoing it on the dog themes). This animal vignette came in at a close second. I love how it brings such a whimsical feeling to the room! I also love the color palette of this vintage rug and think it would be fun to add pops of these colors into the room. I mean…how adorable are these plush woodland animals?!

NURSERY DESIGN 2: AMONG THE TREESÂ
I’m not going to lie – the thought of doing a wallpaper with color makes me a little nervous. However, by keeping the rest of the room pretty warm and neutral I think it could work and I wouldn’t get tired of it. Plus, green is a pretty gender neutral color and is very calming for children. If you are a neutral-lover like me, choose either a rug or a wallpaper with a pop of color to it to use as your inspiration for the rest of the room. Then add contrast and texture with other neutrals and materials. If you’re having a girl…add some pink to this space. I love what Emily Henderson did with blush and green in her little girl’s room!

NURSERY DESIGN 3: PATTERN PLAY
This look has a boho feel to it and I kinda like it! The wallpaper reminds me of marble and who wouldn’t want that on their walls? I have always envisioned a white crib, but know it might not quite stand out among some of these wallpapers like it should. This contrasting white and natural crib is the perfect solution! Again, I love how the vintage rug brings in some color I can add throughout the rest of the room. It really makes the room pop!

NURSERY DESIGN 4: MODERN SERENITYÂ
Last but not least, this design feels calm and cool…almost like an extension of our master bedroom. The pale blue wallpaper is bound to help our little guy dream big and sleep peacefully at night (at least we can hope). One of my non-neogitables for the nursery is a soft rug made of natural materials. I know we will be spending a lot of time sitting and playing on the rug so finding something comfortable is key! I love how this rug carries down the blue from the walls and helps balance the space. Since I chose a white crib for this design, I decided to add in some contrasting pieces with darker hues. Also…this glider is a recliner and has a built in phone charger…pretty high tech if you ask me!

Well, now it’s your turn to tell me what you think! Which design is your favorite? What do you like/dislike about each room? We are eager to get this room started so Dan and I need to settle on a design soon. Next week I will be sharing a roundup of some of my favorite wallpapers for nurseries and childrens’ rooms so don’t miss out!
